btw, Taboo - A topic that a society doesn't want to discuss because it goes against their cultural and societal norms. ^

i don't know where your reasoning comes from but many women are the head of their households and the men are glad of it.

I dont believe its looked upon as especially taboo as it can create a social conflict within varying cultures..because generally the man was the breadwinner and during the 2nd world war women were introduced to the work force in fact it was encouraged by our government to help the war cause,in factories that manufactured parts etc for the war effort and when the men came back from overseas and the women were used to earning a paycheck it was hard for them to go back to being "the little lady"and they had to move over so the men could have their jobs back, during the years following this it was creating confusion for men as to their specific roles in the family and divorce started to be more common place as women HAD to then go to work and were taking mens jobs so they could support their children in the manner they were accustomed to,so it boils down to an ego thing and perhaps rightfully so as the government did`nt do much to help this situation with constant inflation and with the idea that MORE is better,in ALL areas of our life.

A woman’s life is not perfect or whole till she has added herself to a husband. Nor is a man’s life perfect or whole till he has added to himself a wife.
I don't know that it is- still taboo for a woman to be the head of the household.
In a good relationship the responsibilities are shared equally between the husband and wife each to their own abilities. That is what makes both stronger in the world.
There further is nothing wrong with raising strong daughters. Most men I know would be extremely attracted to a strong woman. It doesn't matter the level of strengths as long as both men and women respect each for who they are.

Lots of women are the head of their households...there are lots of single parent households out there.
My parents never allowed being a girl to come between you and a chore....or learning to change a tire...or anything else that needed doing. I would say I come from a long line of strong women...my mother...her mother...my father's mother...and on into the greats.
It just now we can actually earn a livable salary as something other than a nurse or a teacher. Scares some men. (*shrug*) Oh well...

In today's society, a lot of women are the heads of households and doing so very well. Some have only daughters, some have only sons, and some have both. Today's woman has learned to be strong and support themselves.

Society has yet to recognize that roles in relationships/households are changing.....and with that change more and more women are the bread winner in the family. Society in the past has defined that part of being a man is being a good provider, although this is changing society's views on manhood and womanhood have yet to catch up. I believe that women in large numbers have always been breadwinners and head of households, they media just chose not to show it in a positive light.....

Who says it's taboo? I am the head of my household and always have been. I've raised my 2 daughters to be strong and self respecting.

If you don't raise strong, confident women this day in age you are asking for trouble. I didn't really think it is "taboo" to be an independant head of household these days, where I come from we admire women who step up.

If some women were not the head of the family there would not be a head of the household. What about the homes were the parents are divorced? What about the homes where the man is disabled? I believe women deserve to be head of household if that's waht they want or it is required of them.

Where are you asking from?
We are in Dallas, Texas!
I am the Mother of 3 Teen-aged Sons and I RULE this House!
When my Husband was still here I controlled everything, just because I knew what was going on! Now that he is gone I am teaching my Sons to know they should know everything that is going on in a Household. They can be a part of the decisions, if they know what is going on!

That's not taboo. There are hundreds or even thousands of women who are head of the household. Myself included.
