not at all. This is especially true if the women has the more prominent job and it wouldn't be reasonable to change her name, but they want to have the same last name for the sake of easiness. It is not submission, just a display of his love to her.

Its not taboo for the man to take the woman's last name. Some women are the heads of their households. Most of the time it is because the man is absent. However some men do stay home and take care of the kids, clean house, and run errands. It just depends on the situation that is at hand.

No. It's all about the parties involved. And the reasons behind the decision. I would love to have my future husband to take my name instead of me taking his, because my last name involves so much history. Although I'm sure it wouldn't happen because most men have a problem with not having the woman take his name, they feel like it makes them less of a man or something. Which is silly.

You know I kind of appreciate tradition, so I wouldn't feel right having my husband take my name. Once you make me the head of the household, I think I would lose alot of the attraction to my husband. I would have a job and all, but for some reason part of me gets turned off by that.

You may want to go to google and type in "Loving Female Authority".
There are many households that practice matriarchy in the United States
though they are rarely loud about it.
However, it is extremely rare for a guy to take a woman's last name. I know
of only one - because she didn't want his last name, and frankly neither did
he. I kind of liked his last name, but nobody asked me!

No. If you both agree that should be all that matters. I know someone (female) who got married and they both hyphenated their names. I thought it was great. As long as you are both happy...
