I am a Christian. I recommend reading these scriptures and then draw your own conclusions.

Genesis 2:7 - this answers the question as to what a "soul" is.
Ecclesiastes 12:7 - this answers the question that you asked.
James 2:26 & Job 27:3 - these state what a "spirit" is.
John 5:28, 29 & Acts 2:29, 34 - where do good people go?
Ecclesiastes 9:5, 6, 10 & Psalms 115:17 - how much is known after death?

Much more can be said on this topic.

The soul does not leave the body, it is the body. This is what the Bible says about a soul:
1. Genesis 2:7: "And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul." Man became what? He became a person so a soul is the complete person, not just part of it.
2. Leviticus 5:1: "And if a soul sin, and hear the voice of swearing, and is a witness, whether he hath seen or known of it; if he do not utter it, then he shall bear his iniquity." Here it states that a soul (person) can sin, can hear, and can be a witness.
3. Leviticus 5:4: " Or if a soul swear, pronouncing with his lips to do evil, or to do good, whatsoever it be that a man shall pronounce with an oath, and it be hid from him; when he knoweth of it, then he shall be guilty in one of these." Here it states that a soul (person) can swear to do evil or good.
4.Leviticus 7:20: " But the soul that eateth of the flesh of the sacrifice of peace offerings, that pertain unto the LORD, having his uncleanness upon him, even that soul shall be cut off from his people." Here it states that a soul can eat.
5. Leviticus 22:11: "But if the priest buy any soul with his money, he shall eat of it, and he that is born in his house: they shall eat of his meat." Here we find that animals are also called souls.
6. Leviticus 23:30: " And whatsoever soul it be that doeth any work in that same day, the same soul will I destroy from among his people." Here it states that a soul can work and can be destroyed.
7. Ezekiel 18:20: " The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him." This is most important because it shows that a soul is not immortal, but can die.

Ancient Egyptian belief: Bast or Horus guides soul through the Underworld in order to have the person's heart weighed on the scales by Thoth. The heart is weighed against the ostrich feather of Maat. If the heart does not weigh as much as the feather, then the soul of that person goes to be with the Gods is heaven. If the heart weighs more than the feather, it is thrown to another god (forgot the name) to be eaten, and that person then ceases to exist.

Most other pagan religions: You die and your soul rests for a while. You then commune with the Gods to find out if you learned the lessons you were supposed to learn in your previous life, and if there are any more lessons you are supposed to learn. If so on either count, you reincarnate to further learn those lessons. If not, you go to the Summerlands (or something equivalent) to be with the Gods.

First of all, you do not have and immortal soul, if you did, then why had no one gone to Heaven before Jesus came to the Earth, 4000 years had came & gone since Adam & Eve, millions of people had died, what did Jesus say to a man of the Pharisees, Nic·o·de'mus was his name, a ruler of the Jews.

John 3:13
Moreover, no man has ascended into heaven but he that descended from heaven, the Son of man.

What is a Soul?
Right in the very first book of the Bible, Genesis, we are told that the soul is not something you have, it is something you are. We read of the creation of Adam, the first human being: “The man came to be a living soul.” (Genesis 2:7) The Hebrew word used here for soul, ne'phesh, occurs well over 700 times in the Hebrew Scriptures, never once conveying the idea of a separate, ethereal, spiritual part of man. On the contrary, the soul is tangible, concrete, physical.

Look up the following cited texts in your own copy of the Bible, for the Hebrew word ne'phesh is found in each of them. They clearly show that the soul can face risk, danger, and even be kidnapped (Deuteronomy 24:7; Judges 9:17; 1 Samuel 19:11); touch things (Job 6:7); be locked up in irons (Psalm 105:18); crave to eat, be afflicted by fasting, and faint from hunger and thirst; and suffer from a wasting disease or even insomnia as a result of grief. (Deuteronomy 12:20; Psalm 35:13; 69:10;) In other words, because your soul is you, your very self, your soul can experience anything you can experience.

Does that mean, then, that the soul can actually die? Yes. Far from being immortal, human souls are spoken of in the Hebrew Scriptures as being “cut off,” or executed, for wrongdoing, being struck fatally, murdered, destroyed, and torn to pieces. (Exodus 31:14; Deuteronomy 19:6; 22:26; Psalm 7:2) “The soul that is sinning—it itself will die,” says Ezekiel 18:4. Clearly, death is the common end of human souls, since all of us sin. (Psalm 51:5) The first man, Adam, was told that the penalty for sin was death—not transfer to the spirit realm and immortality. (Genesis 2:17) And when he sinned, the sentence was pronounced: “For dust you are and to dust you will return.” (Genesis 3:19) When Adam and Eve died, they simply became what the Bible often refers to as ‘dead souls’ or ‘deceased souls.’

What made you think that the soul when it leaves the body has an eternal destination?

2006-08-05 22:42:37 · answer #6 · answered by Don S 5 · 0 0

I believe that the soul is the combination of the Physical body and the Spirit...

At death the Spirit seperates from the Physical body and returns to heaven... where it will be pre-judged to see if it is worthy to enter ... if not... it will spend time waiting the final judgement in Spirit prison... if it is worthy... it will wait in a peaceful location...

I believe that other spirits will guide us to our destination.

I believe that we have guides. Either relatives that have passed before us or guardian angels.

There is a possibility that our souls know when we pass where to go.

I do believe that some after leaving the body feel as though they have unfinished business here on earth and that is why they linger.

depends on what do you mean about soul, soul for me is just your subconscious mind. if you die, i don't know what you are talking about destination. and how do you believe that there is a soul going somewhere when somebody died? you can believe in whatever you chooses to, you can find somebody whom you share same belief. but how can you be sure if its true? ITS NOT.
