Crotchety means cranky, crabby, narrow-minded, miserable, grumpy -- you sometimes hear the phrase 'Crotchety old man' which is generally applied to someone who always seems to have the miseries, and stomps around with a cane, bashing the heads off dandelions and taking swipes at small dogs.

in addition to the above - rude, grumpy, stubborn, unhearing.
generally older people are more crotchety than younger ones.
when i think of the word crotchety i think of those old men that sit on thier porches all day throwing things at the neighborhood kids and grumbling about how no one appreciates things anymore.

You can check the exact definition here - http://www.m-w.com/cgi-bin/dictionary?va=crotchety - but it basically means that someone is grumpy and sort of quirky. It's usually used to describe an older, crazy-cat-lady, sort of person.
