It could be anything from psoriasis to a simple reaction to something you touched. Sometimes fingertips will peel because of heat as well. If you've been living through a particularly hot summer (as we have here in Chicago) then it's not unusual to see some peeling of skin around the fingertips, especially on the top parts of the fingers near the fingernails or along the sides of the fingers. This would also occurr on the pads of the fingers as well. It's nothing to really worry about, especially if there is no redness, itching, or discomfort accompanying the peeling. But just to play it safe, keep your fingers clean as you normally would and see a doctor if the condition causes you any concern, especially if it goes on for a while. Chances are, however, you're just getting rid of dead skin, though there is also a very vague possibility that you're suffering from a minor fungus infection. At any rate, don't panic. It's not that serious and a doctor/dermatologist would be able to give you more specific information than me if you're truly concerned.

Also, if your normally moisurize your hands and have stopped, THAT could be the reason too.

The only real way to find out is ask your doctor.

However, if you have athlete's foot and have been picking at your toes, then you know what it is.
