If atheists are right, then society would become even more immoral than it already is. Think of all of the benefits that religion has give us: government, laws, a system of courts and prisons, the principle of doing to others what we want them to do to us, charity and love. In order to get rid of all religion, you would have to also eliminate these and other religious principles. Then man will eventually be completely destroyed.
Without a a belief in God, then it will be permissible to do anything that you want to do, but then you would also be paranoid because others would be doing the same thing. You would live in fear wondering when someone will come to steal your stuff or to kill you. And, after you die, there is nothing, so why not give up now. There is no hope of anything better than this world has to offer, and it already sucks.
I know it sounds ridiculous. Murder is a violation of a religious principle, so throw it out. If you keep it, then you acknowledge the wisdom of God who said "Thou shalt not kill." It is the same with stealing, lying, adultery, and even love; they all are religious principles.
You can say that I am deluded, but at least I can be truly happy. If there is no God, I'm still happy and have a satisfying life. If I'm right, I get to live forever and have an even better life than this world can give to me.
So what about you?
It is a little ironic that atheists will deny the existance of God, but they will admit to the existance of a devil. Isn't a contradiction in your "religion"?

If you are feeling like everyone picks on atheists here, it's because you're on a RELIGION AND SPIRITUALITY site! Hellloooooo! You are on a site that likes to talk about spirituality and you don't like spirituality, you don't believe in it, remember? If you were to go to a atheist site nobody would "pick on you " there.
What if you are wrong? What if you have made a HUGE mistake? What if you spend the rest of eternity in Hell?
What happens after life? Everyone has a spirit that will live forever. It will live in one place or the other, and you have a choice as to where this will be.

well, they cant be really that right, because look at it this way. if we die, that's it and we are buried or burned or what ever, we then become part of something great than us, we become the dust of the field, the dirt of which may turn to grass, trees, sand, what ever, we may blow away into the ocean and become part of the great blues depths of earth eternity, we may then be eaten by something, bugs, birds, cows, lions etc, and thus become once again part of something alive, moving breathing, the cycle goes on and on. We never really stop becoming do we.
It is also said that every single voice, word, sound is trapped within our own atmosphere it is there with all the peoples of the earth from time immortal. What a concept. Life is eternal, even if the world was blow to bits tomorrow, we would travel in billions of trillions of zillions of particles into space, becoming once again part of a grander whole. COOL there are no atheists for their theory of life is null and void.

At the end of their life, they wouldn't be an atheist any more. That is because when the door of this life closes, we go through & find out what is on the other side. Then there is a new beginning...good or bad. What ever the outcome. the atheist is no longer an atheist.

Different atheists have different views on the end of life. The only belief atheists share is lack of belief in god.
I believe that the end of an individuals' life is when the body looses consciousness, like an eternal sleep. And as Mark Twain said (paraphrased) I wasn't concerned before I was born, so I'm not going to worry about it after I'm dead.

For me, it is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring.
Carl Sagan
It's a hard concept for most people to understand because it's a scary thought. What if when we die nothing happens? What if we see a white light, and then suddenly nothing? We just die. What if we become nothingness? It’s a hard concept to grasp for most people.
If we are right, then when we die, our bodies and consciousness die as well. We simple die. Nothing happens. There is no darkness, no light, there is simply nothing. I wish that religion were true because it scares the hell out of me to.
Suppose we've chosen the wrong god.
Every time we go to church we're just making him madder and madder.

At the end of a life, since there is no afterlife, the body decays and returns to the earth.
Life would then never end, because there is no "Judgement Day". We'd just keep living our lives, with nothing to look forward to or have consequences for.

The atheists ARE right. People invented the concept of souls for the same reason they invented the concept of reincarnation: to try to convince themselves that death isnt really the end.
Conciousness is a fuction of the brain. We know the brain rots and disintegrates after death, so we know that people dont experience heaven, hell, or anything else after they die.

I can't speak for all atheists, but most atheists believe that when a person dies, he becomes a young adult (attractive, healthy, etc.) and goes to his favorite location with his favorite people where he resides for all ...
Damn, I hate that when that happens. Scratch the above, that's Christianity.
When we die, it is no different than going to sleep and is going to happen regardless what we believe.
