73 is too much. If you REALLY want 73 things then I would say that you are really spoiled or you get absolutely nothing all year long. I could have NEVER asked my parents for that many things - ever! And they bought me dozens of gifts at Christmas! I still would have never asked for that many.

It depends on the prices of the lists and how much you actually expect to get. If you've got 73 things down but you'd really rather get 10 of the items way more than the others, you may want to prune it down. 73 can be plenty to choose from, or it can be overwhelming. As for whether it's too early- well yeah, I would say so. You're totally missing out on the whole reason for Christmas. Are you at least putting that much effort into what you'd like to get your parents? Maybe you can keep the list as a general wish list and pick things from it for other occasions as well.

Every year for x-mas I let my kids pick 5 things they really want. Then I will add a few other things I know they want. 73 honestly is outrageous. Are you an only child? Are you trying to break the bank? I get where you're going with starting in August. I'll give you credit for that one, only cause I've already started x-mas shopping for my kids. Tone it down a little though and have a good x-mas.

I tell my kids to write down whatever they want and then at the bottom to list the three things they want the most. Trust me it might only be August but my kid started right after Christmas last year. Just remember though when you give the list that you wont get everything and depending on finances it might not even be what you want most but your parents get what they can afford and be grateful for that.
