Just wondering. US support of Israel brings the US nothing but grief from Middle Eastern countries.
Peace between Palestine and Israel will never be attained through the use of force. Decades of war and bloodshed has made this abundantly clear (at least to those of us who aren't fighting in this futile conflict)
.
So why should the US dirty its hands supporting one side or the other? We are already unpopular enough. If Israel and Palestine want to kill one another in the name of god (or holy cities, take your pick), why should we further alienate the Arab world by taking sides?

Let me rephrase the question for those of you who are really f uckin dense: "what political advantage does the U.S. gain by supporting a very unpopular cause in the Middle East?" Please don't reply with your Bible rhetoric bullshit. This question was purposely not placed in the "religion" category.

I'm from Canada, but actually our current government supports Israel's aggression too. I think we, in both Canada and the US, should not support Israel any more than we should support a free Palestine--or Lebanon. Right now, Israel is the aggressor--and it's all because Hezbollah kidnapped 2 Israeli soldiers to bargain for the release of prisoners.
My advice is for all Americans and Canadians to watch the BBC or other UK news. At least they will show the destruction in Lebanon, and they won't have that pro Israel bias.

Ok. Morpheus, go straight to hell. It's exactly because of people like you that the US should support Israel. Do you know how hard Israel has to work just to survive? Young soldiers from the tender age of 18 are drafted into the army to train and protect their country with their lives, women and men alike. Parents lose their children every day because the palestinians constantly attack our borders. Who the hell do you think you are, parading around, acting like a living breathing human being, when if you had half a heart you would understand the things My small country has had to go through? Do you even comprehend what Israelies have to live with every day, wake up with in the morning, go to sleep with at night? You think Hitler was a good man? You think he should still be alive? Pray tell, what race are you? Are you a full-blood "Aryan"? Do you have blond hair and blue eyes? Because if you don't, Hitler would kill you to. It's senseless and brainless people like you that bring about wars in this world. You think Jews are horrible people that should just die? Tell me, how many wars have Jews started? How many races , religions, and bodies of people have they persecuted? All we have done is mind our own business thourhout history, and puople have hated us from the beginning just because we were different. In the Spanish inquisition, we were killed unless we converted to christianity. During the Black Plague, we were blamed for all the deaths and disease. Even now in the 21st century, people are against us because of our religion. France, most of the Arab states, and really ignorant people like you. Why don't you get a life and learn how to read and write properly so that you can read up on some of that precious history you seem to like to recite (incorrectly). Get a life, and grow a brain.

There are several reasons for continued support of Israel. For one thing, Israel (i know they are far from perfect) can at least make itself look like a democracy. We like to support democracies. Another issue is that the Israelis have a many non-governmental supporters in the US. The Jewish community and their allies within the Christian community in the US are a rather sizable constituency, and they have strong lobby groups. Continuing, Israel has rather consistently been on our side in other issues. If you want us to be your friend, be our friend. Whether it's cause or effect at this point is hard to tell, but let's face it: after 9/11, Palestinians danced in the streets for joy. Why the hell would we support them?

The U.S. should be supporting Israel because they are a peaceful nation of people who only respond to attacks from others. Israel only attacks others in direct response to other's attacking Israel first. Israel has a fair policy of performing three times as much damage to the aggressor as the aggessor has inflcted upon Isreal. The goal of that policy is to teach the aggressor that they will lose by attacking Israel. I fully support that policy as a fair doctrine for the right of anyone to defend themselves.
I disagree with why Bush supports Israel, but I completely support his support of Israel.
As best stated the other day.
If you took all the weapons out of Lebanon, the Israeli's would go home and everyone will live peacfully.
If you took all the weapons out of Israel, the arab's would go to Israel and start another holocaust with no one living peacefully.
Foir that reason alone, we should always fully support those who support peace.

Because the US wants as many democratic governments in the Middle East as possible so that we can get oil at a good price. All about the benjamins, baby. Not to mention there's a huge Jewsish constituency here in the States to keep happy. A lot of them vote.

We should support Israel because it is a sovereign, democratic ally of the USA. The problem with the Palestinians is an issue within the state of Israel, settled by the partition vote of the U.N. in 1948.

I completely agree. The support of Israel is only validated because we helped set up the country. I am not anti-Semitic, like some who have answered this question, but I believe that if we don't support Israel, not only will they win the war, but we will look better to the Arabs. I hope I provided intelligent conversation.

It is out of our hands. The religious left controls a good portion of the U.S, and even the President is a christian. As long as that is the case the U.S will side with the Jews and Isreal.

If we dont support Israel, I believe it will become another extremist islamic state. Christians and Jews will both be denied their religious holy sites and we will be giving into the terrorists.
History has shown what will happen when we give into dictators.
