I drive in New Jersey a lot where it is a law that you can not pump your own gas. However, I work in NY, an there is a gas station I sometimes go to that is convenient for me on my way home from work and it is full-serve only.

1) Do I tip the worker in New Jersey?

2) Do I tip the worker in NY, since it is optional to go to a full-serve station there.

3) How much?

Thanks for your advice in advance!

It's actually the same price for my full serve station in NY that all the other selve serve stations are in the area.

I live in oregon where we are also not allowed to pump our own gas. I've never heard of tipping the gas station worker.

If an attendant should wash your windshield, check your tires and oil, that deserves a tip. Not a percentage of the gas. Maybe a buck for each service, or a minimum of two.

Full serve used to include these services, when gas was 30 cents a gallon.

I don't think tips are necessary in this situation, you're paying enough for gas.I never gave a tip or knew anybody who gave a tip when gas stations were all full service.

You don't tip either one. The full serve pumps charge you more, so you're already paying someone to pump it for you.

Gas station attendants who voluntarily check fluids, wash windows, etc., should get $1 to $2 or more.
