Hi Abbie,
Here's a good site that you can go to that might give you some helpful information and guidance:

In the Search box just type in "anorexia".

Good luck!

If you have a distorted body image (you see something in the mirror that's really not there, for ex., you seeing yourself as overweight when you are really not) then you may be in danger of developing an eating disorder. The fact that you have also had thoughts about not eating, and overeating, worries me too.I would highly reccommend that you try to get counseling. It's normal for everyone, especially women, to be a little self-conscious about their bodies, but I don't think you would've came on Yahoo Answers and asked such a question if you weren't considering drastic measures to avoid gaining weight. Please act now, because if you ignore this situation it will only get worse.Anorexia and bulimia are becoming more and more common these days and if left untreated, they will eventually lead to death. I'm not a doctor or a counselor, so please call this number for further info: 1-866-494-0866.I wish you the very best and please take care of yourself!

It's possible. It's also possible that these are normal worries of a young woman. Sad, but society puts so much pressure on young girls and women to be thin that a fear of gaining weight seems to be normal in most of us.

Or, it may be an eating disorder; I don't know since I don't know you.

Anorexia is a fear of fatness and a refusal to nourish one's body. You mentioned a fear of weight gain, but you did not say that you really don't eat. However, many anorexics know that they are too thin but still cannot stop themselves from dieting. Since I don't know you, I can't really give you much advice.

However, YOU can take charge. Ask yourself a few of these questions and answer honestly. If you say yes to more than one, you may want to get help. This isn't a diagnosis. It's an often effective way of finding out what kind of path you're walking.

Do you refuse yourself food?
Do you try to hide food so you don't have to eat it?
Do you make up excuses so you don't have to eat most of your food?
Do you move the food around your plate so it looks like you've eaten more than you have?
Do you avoid social situations so people won't see that you don't eat?
Do you do intense aerobic exercise for more than two hours per day?
Are you pale, or often sick?
Have you missed your menstrual period?
Do you believe that you are fat or disgusting?
Have you been trying to lose weight and used extreme measures to lose it (ex: abuse of laxatives or diuretics, induced vomiting, weighing food and counting calories, checking the bathroom scale more than twice per day, abuse of diet pills, etc.)?
Do you talk about food and weight constantly?
Have you started to wear loose clothes to hide your appearance?

If you've answered yes to more than one or two of these questions, you may have a problem.... In which case, you need to tell someone you trust and get help. Anorexia is serious business and, if not treated, it will kill you.

Depends on your height/frame versus body weight. Ever see Ally McBeal? SHE was anorexic. If your cheekbones are highly visible and your bones around your knees and elbows very much, you are probaby anorexic, but a weight estimate from a professional trainer would certify if this was so or not.

Besdies, whats wrong with gaining weight and being fat? I mean really? People suffer with severe acne, horrible disfigurement, baldness, decapitation...really, does Jack Black seem depressed or at a lack for amorous females?

One of the ugliest (and I know its not polite to say that but he was not pretty by any means) kids in school had LOTS of confidence and was very charming, he got some of the "prettiest" girls in school!!

Its a pathological when you have frequent weakness and soreness in your muscles and limbs. Do a lift test, see what your friends can lift and what you can, test for endurance too. These are good indicators.

Good luck!!

the reason your thin is because you have a really fast metabolism. That means you can eat and eat but never get fat so you do not have Anorexia Nervosa.

you didn't say how old you are. but i suspect you don't have anerexia nervosa. eat and exercise daily and you shouldn't gain weight. you sound like you are self concious i don't think theres
a person who hasn't worried about their weight it when you start
displaying other symptoms that you can into trouble.

I would rather be anerexic then fat, so be thankful that it will be easy for you to stuff junk in your face and gain weight and still be at a good weight!!!

If you fear food so much, that you think that it is your worst enemy, and that you are wasting away, you do. If you are just thin (Like me) but love food, its normal
