Cocaine is extremely addicting and crack is even worse - cause it is in pure rock form and is smoked- so the high is longer but it wears off quicker - people smoking crack may be very very paranoid or violent with all the same side symptoms as cocaine use. Check their pupils, see if their nose is running a lot, have they stopped eating? (sometimes this does not happen or they will eat to throw people off), are they very talkative and manic late - can they not sleep -- bags or circles under eyes, stealing habits, lying, less money, loss of job, distance from family and friends, any powder on nose, long nails esc pinky nail to snort off of, straws in car, paranoid and looking around a lot - mood swing, irritable, stays up late or all night, crack tends to make people go on a run - where they will go missing for days - noth can make you sleep all days or for days when they wear off. If they are shooting cocaine, check their arms by their elbows on the other side - or their hands or even tops of feet. Are they borrying a lot of money - disappearing, forgetting their own lies, etc - People smoking crack may have bright red or burnt and swollen lips from the pipe being hot, paraphenalia around, lots of lighters, near empty lighters, big lighters, and may pick their face from thinking there are bugs crawling on them - so they may have scabs on their faces or bodies.
the best wasy to approach them is to say i am worried about you - you have changed and directly ask them are you doing drugs - see how they react tell them you want them to get help before it gets worse - tell them you miss the real them. Or you and all of the people that they are close to can get together and have an intervention if it is really bad and they are all worried - this is where everyone tells the person how their addiction has effected them and there is often a person from a drug rehab or counselor present to mediate.
If I were you I would call a clinic or drug inpatient or outpatient center and tell them your concerns and also ask them what to do.I am more than sure they would be happy to help you. This person should get into an inpatient or outpatient rehab, stop using any substances including alcohol and also go to NA or AA meetings - aa is alchoholics anonymous and na is narcotics anonymous - aa is a bit more stable with more sobriety - na tends to be a meeting place for these people who have lost all of their friends and want people to do drugs with.
Short-term cocaine effects include:
Increased blood pressure, constricted blood vessels, dilated pupils(meaning the black center will get BIGGER), mental alertness, increased energy, increased heart rate
more severe and long term can be: Paranoia, irritability,
Restlessness, auditory hallucinations, mood disturbances, decreased appetite and increased temperature
Just tell them you love them and try to help - offer your ear and help and tell them you can take them somewhere to help them but know that no one can stop using until they know they have a problem and will probably be in denial about the using - it is so addictive. Just realize that this person may say hurtful things nad not want your help and even may not want to talk to you if you confront them but you should do it anyway - try but just know in your heart that you tried - addiction takes away that person so u are not dealing with them - you are dealing with the drug - the drug is talking to you and lying and denying - even if they are not actively high - that urge is soooo strong and it does stay in your body for a few days (3-4) but it takes your brain chemistru over one year to get back to normal - if it ever does.
You can also ask them to take a drug test and see how they react - you can have them go to the dr or get a send in test from the drugstore. Just be there for them and ask - try to talk but don't be upset if any bad reaction happens - that probably will if they are in deep - just know you did the best that you can and that you are being a good friend, daughter, gf, or whatever this person may be to you. Best of luck and stay strong!

I wish you would have put why you suspect it. If after what you have read by previous respondents, you think the person is doing it then run like hell. I am not usually a person to give this kind of advice, I believe we should always help people when we can, but crack is very nasty business. Then best thing you can do for this person is tell them you won't associate with them if they do it.
Some people do experiment, but if they get hooked they will lie cheat and steal from anyone they can. If they are just experimenting they will take your words to heart and think about what they are doing if not they will hurt you and you can not save them.

If they're rich then probably cocaine
If they're poor it's probably crack
Signs:
itching
stealing
weight loss
not sleeping
not eating
white powder under nose = cocaine
few yellow teeth = crack
hanging out at "crack houses" or with "crack heads"
To get them to stop you should probably get help I would try to contact the producers of that show on A&E called intervention

Signs are:
=Stealing things they wouldn't normally steal: their momz money, TV sets, VCR, etc..
=Not being able to sit still
=seeing and feeling imaginary things
=scratching their body alot(due to the fact that they see and feel imaginary things on them.)
=Missing teeth
=scars on the arm or hand or anywhere that looklike a needle has been inserted.
=they're always asking for money and would do ANYTHING TO GET SOME CRACK.
^It willtake alot of love and patience to get some out of this habit. It is up to them to stay away from the substance even aafter they come out of rehabilitation center.
I know it's scary sometimes. I live in a community where U see them all the time. When they get real bad, they are just like zombies looking for change to support their habit. . .

When they get paid instead of paying bills and taking care of they're kids they'll stay away all night then come home the next day broke! They may come home and take things like the television and VCR to take to the pawn shop to buy more crack!

They usually start stealing things. They stay up for days. They are paranoid and have a change of friends. They loose weight and have poor hygiene. Most always become homeless.
