Religions are like fireflies.
They require darkness in order to shine.

religion is nothing without Jesus Christ, Heavenly Father, And the Holy Ghost. Just imagine the the earth is shrouded with darkness to the point that you can't even see your hand in front of your face. all of a suddenly a light shines down from the heavens and then you can move around because you are able to see. denying that there is a god is almost like turning your flash light off. now since the light is off you are lost and can't progess down the path. you end up going in circles( haveing sex before marriage, takeing drugs, stealing). This isn't the happy life. doing all the wrong things in life is only a short term happiness that eventually leaves you empty inside. kind of getting off topic but how can some people life like satan himself and not know it because they don't believe their is a god. what makes you think these evil ideas are pushed from. just think about it. if you are pushing it, and your saying that we make all these bad ideas pop up then that would make us insane. anyway.

It depends on the religion. Many religions are centered around darkness. The band Switchfoot uses the line in one of their songs, "The shadow proves the sunshine." Some times it's hard for us to acknowledge God when everything is bright and going our way. It's when the trials come when we open our eyes to see the awesomeness of God.

Nope. Darkness does not exist. There is no such measurable thing that is called darkness. You can not measure darkness, but you can measure light. Darkness is nothing more than the absence of light. Light is all that exists. A single candle can obliterate darkness.

Schopenhauer's philosophy (not in any way encapsulated by the above quote) matches many religion's core beliefs (in my opinion). As far as the pithy aphorism, pretty good but superficial.

Good anology - I may need to use that.

Although I would think ignorance is the most useful tool of religions.

Yes, you can have good without evil.

Religion has never offered a solution to anything.

to shine? probably. to exist? no. It is easiest to notice the good things about religion when the world is bad- you see the perks that are absent in your surroundings. however, i am a Christian, and my faith does not wax or wane depending on how much my life stinks or rocks. my God is my God, and my life does not change that.

Once you find God you will never need religion ever again.
A truth be told.

Of course! How do you think they get all their followers? If they had no darkness to fear, they would have no need to be "saved"
