At what skill level would you recommend owning one? How about 50 mile rides? 70?

A fitting jersey that is pretty tight makes a diffrence in any race, especially a track race. It doesn't flap aorund, is aerodynamic, wicks away moisture and is thin to prevent overheating. any serious ride over 20 miles could use a jersey, and any race at all. they are also convenient with pockets in the back to the stuff doesn't fall out. jerseys definitely make a diffrence if you bike any distance wroth mentioning, like over 20 miles. it deosn't have to be the most expensive, a used one that fits will do. rememebr there a bit tight fitting and thats how its supposed to be. so a used one thats comfortable and fitting and looks decent is a very handy thing to use.

Jerseys are about cycling comfort, aero dynamics are marginal. They wick moisture way better than a cotton shirt, have pockets, and "lay" better on the body in a cycling position. I wear them for every ride no matter how short or long.

I would recommend somebody using on at about 40 miles and above because 20 or 30 isn't that bad.

I think it's not really for speed, but usually the fabrics on the jerseys lets you not get as soaked with sweat as using a cotton shirt.

They just create a smoother surface for better aerodynamics, just like shaving does.

a very minute difference but yes. for your average person it won't really make a difference. even for the rpos it really doesn't make a difference. but I would say anywhere around 70MPH and up.

Like shaving your legs or titanium bikes, they offer marginal advantage.

if, however, it gives you a mental advantage, go for it.
