yars, actually, Mexico's only large oil field is nearing depletion. Can we say 'mass exodus'?

And oh, what an opportunity for Bush's friends. Because popular discussion has it that Mexico doesn't have the technology or training to go after their 'harder to reach' oil such as the huge field in the gulf of Mexico. Popular discussion hints broadly that 'even Cuba' welcomes foreign investment to help with complex oil production....

Bush's feelings towards Mexico are a warm and wonderful thing. Aren't they?

yars - thanks for the link.

Note the statement " 'To tackle Chicontepec and deep water, we need to have a legal framework in which we can work with other companies in strategic alliances. To insist that Pemex alone can develop a project of this nature isn't realistic,' Ramirez said." "

That is where the 'foreign investment potential' comes in. Currently it isn't allowed by Mexican law.

Are you kidding? Mexico has a oil reserve. They have one they haven't even started drilling, because they don't yet have the means to start production yet.

1/2 of all the Millionaires in Latin America live in Mexico, Mexico has a new middle class, and it isn't uncommon to meet business owners that make 70,000 a year-American, not pesos

Mexico is the richest now that it has been in a long time. A lot of Mexicans flew out to see the World Cup, spent a ton of money in Europe.

It's not as a poor country as some people think, though its government is totally screwed up.
They have a LOT of poor people, but if you are poor in Mexico it is really hard, you have to pay for school, and if you can't afford to send your kids to high school, they never get to go. They need to change that if they want to get ahead.

Americans shouldn't take education for granted, no matter how poor you are in America you can still attend K-12th grade without paying a large tuition.

Considering we share borders with mexico, the United States should help the economy of the poor in Mexico. It would help them from illegally crossing the border into the United States, but I dont think it has anything to do with the oil in Mexico.

What the heck do you think NAFTA was about? Helping the US? Helping Canada? You want to help Mexico? Get all the illegal immigrants, arm them and tell them to get rid of the corruption in their own country! I think Fox is a good man at heart, I think he has great intentions for his country and his people. But between drug cartels, corrupt local politicians and police it is nearly an impossible job. Nothing is going to be fixed in Mexico until the people demand it!

Where does one start? And how do you propose we help fix their government? We are already feeding, housing, and education millions of their people. Why the hell would they want to change any thing. We are saving them $68 billion a year. Not another nickle goes over that border unless it has busloads of illegals going with it.

Please tell me where you go to school, I want to have them shut down.

Mexico is the second largest importer of oil to America.

Dar, good point I wouldn't have expected less from you, but notice:
