i have been to the dentist who said i have a large upper widom tooth that is pressing on my lower gum and inflaming it.
i'm on antibiotics and taking paracetamol and tramadol for arthritis, so i can only take ibrubrofen as an extra painkiller.
iv'e tried tooth tincture and bongela but nothing lasts.
i cant open my mouth because my jaw is stuck so i'm eating anything like soup and weetabix.
it's been like this for a week now.
i'd be grateful if anyone could think of anything i haven't thought of already.
sensible answers please

I had the exact same thing happen to me about 5 weeks ago but it was a lower wisdom tooth.

The nurofen & co-codamol wern't even helping the pain & I was literaly awake for 3 nights in the end so i went to the dentists even tho, like you I couldnt open my mouth coz of the pain & I'm terrified of the dentist but when in the dentists chair I forced my mouth open & once I'd had the injection to have it removed.....OH HEAVEN! The dentist even asked me if I wanted to wait till I could open my mouth without the pain, but no way. I've never had any pain with it since even when the injection wore off.

Failing that you could try Oil of cloves, you can buy it at the chemist. Good luck.

besides what's already been said, I don't really have any advise. Clove oil's good. You put it on the end of your finger and rub it around the inflamed area, or sit a drench piece of cotton wool there instead. Sounds dreadful, must be very painful and you have my total sympathy. Hope it's not too long before you can have it removed. I think toothache and earache are just about the worst pains to live with.

I have had excellent results with Ibuprofen for swelling and inflamation. Try that to get the swelling down. I take two every 4 hours. The pharmacist says 2400 mgs. a day is safe. Speak to your Pharmacist to confirm this first.

I use the generic or store brand. The cost is much less.

When I had bad tooth ache I used a clove which is anatural anaesthetic, you place the clove on the inflammed area of course it tastes like much of the stuff dentists use but it is efficient.

I have been through the same thing... I went to my doctor, and told him I needed something for the pain as the dentist wouldn't give me anything, he gave me codeine... much stronger then paracetamol... Can't drive after taking them though!

I feel very sorry for you! All I can say is when I have problems with my teeth I try and keep them warm, even wrapping a scarf around my mouth... I don't know if it will help in this case, but trying is better than nothing!

You will have pain relief once it is out. I had same probs years ago. I think you should be seen as an emergency now. No one should have pain these days. Hope you are feeling better soon. take care now xxxxxxxxx hugs

See if you can get to the dentist sooner. If not, there is not much more you can do other than getting some Darvocet or something stronger like Percocet.
