Have the vets run blood work? Being 9 years your dog should be on a senior diet.Ask your vet which ones they recommend their are some diets that are prescription(only from the vets) that help with the joints as well like Hill's Prescription J/D or medical mature , that has therapeutic levels of glucosamine in it as well as being good for an older dogs kidneys and heart and liver.

My boxer lost alot of weight when she was sick and had er surgery when she was 7 months old. She should have weighed almost 30-40 pounds, instead she weighed 23. after her surgery the vet told me to pick up weight fast, feed her Eukanuba Large breed dog food. Feed her as much as she could eat. Fill the bowls and let her eat when she wants. She is normal weight today and her coat is so shiny. I swear by that dog food. As a treat once in a while i would put on the dog food chicken broth or the Iams gravy in a bottle.
Good Luck!

Puppy food is good to keep weight on an old dog with good kidneys. Billy Jack also has a good reputation for weight gain and is mighty tasty for a flagging appitite. You may have to resort to cooking for her untill she picks up a bit - Boiled chicken, mac & cheese, scrambled eggs are all good things to try. Senior diets unfortunatally frequently assume that an older dog is less active & are reduced calorie.

Canidae Platinum
It is a great very High-Quality, but reasonably priced, food. It is packed with great nutrition and has Glucosamine for her joints.
It has great ingredients that will help her coat, and she will steadily gain the weight that she needs.
A good food just more for the weight gain is Innova EVO. It is pretty high calorie, and once again a really high-quality food.

Purina PUppy Chow is packed with the most calories. If you want to add to that, just simply pour a half can (depending on can size) over his food. This is what I do with my females to keep them from losing weight when they are pregnant and after whelping. Good Luck

There may be more than meets the eye. If this was simple degenerative arthritis she should not lose her appetite and lose weight. If she does not start eating again soon, take her back to the vet and have them look for some other problem.
