Depends on your state and local laws

Depends on where you live. I have a day care in my home and in my state a license is not required if you have 5 children or less to care for, including your children. I wanted the same thing you want, to stay home with my daughter and still have an income. I didn't know if I would be doing this for 5 years or 25 years so I decided not to get a license. There are some advantages to having a day care license where I live, you are listed on the DHS site as a home day care (advertising) and you qualify for state funds to help you with groceries, but I didn't want to go through all steps to get the license since I wasn't sure how long I would be doing this in my home. If you are licensed the state will also stop in occasionally to make sure everything is safe and you will be required to attend classes to maintain your license. Just some things to think about. If you have any questions, feel free to send me an email through Yahoo Answers. Good luck.

It depends on the state you live in, and whether or not the 4 kids would come from the same family. Some states allow a person to care for ONE FAMILY'S worth of children, without a license from the state. Check with your state's licensing board (look up your state's Department of Education on the web).

You probably would. This $400-500 a month is that per child or for all 4 of them? Do you have any type of education that would qualify you to take care of that many children on a regular basis?

In every state I looked, it is considered family day care if you take in kids on a regular basis, even if you don't get paid. I would check your individual state, but I am guessing the answer is Yes.

IF IT IS A CONSISTENT DAY CARE THAN YES YOU WOULD AND WOULD HAVE TO PAY TAXES AS YOU WOULD IN A HOME BUSINESS. IF IT WERE JUST BABYSTIITING EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE THAN NO. YOU CAN GET IN SERIOUS TROUBLE IF YOU DONT ET A LICENSE AND DO THIS

Check with your local Town Hall - they will be able to tell you who to contact about local regulations.

Licensing is a good thing!
It means that parent can be sure that your home is safe, and that will bring you business!
