Could be a number of things. Chances are, maggots could have gotten into an infected wound. If it is magets, you need to get to a dr. and have them removed before they turn into flys. (a simple pair of tweezers can remove them) It only takes a few days or so, for adult flys to emerge so get to the dr.
You will need anitbiotics to heal this abcess, more than likely. But, if it was indeed maggots, they may have cleared out most of the bad tissue for you. I've seen them used, in more sterilized conditions, as a way to get out rotted tissue in places that surgeons couldn't go. It was called "maggot therapy" and it worked.
It could also be any of other types of parasites. Get yourself to the dr. before the wound gets worse or you get gane green in the area.

Worms. In a cut you let get infected. I've also seen those episodes of Ripley's and Extreme Paramedics-crazy, huh?
