The neighbor is renting a house next door to me. They use profanity all the time and play music late at night. They have 2 small kids and I have 1 small child. The dog lunged toward me when I went to get in my car. I am concerned for my daughter's safety and would rather not have her hear the language.

I know dogs bark. I think if I were to call the police that would only make matters worse, because they would figure out that it was me that called.

In our county of about 30,000 population there have been 3 child deaths by pitt bull dogs.
You should demand that they keep the dogs on chains or in yards they cannot get out of. I would call the police and report them and file a complant on all issues. You should not have ot be scared for you and your family because of soem idiots. There may even be a law that bars pit bulls from with in the county or city where you live, check on it.
Pit bulls are bed to kill and are apt to attack anyone without reason or warning. So far all the pit bull attacks(dobernman too) I know of the pitt bull was a pet for years before going on a rampage, But pit bull owners will defend them to your child's death. I would not wait until this happens, force them to move, remove the animal or chain it .

Speak to them first. You do NOT have to put up with constant barking of a dog OR the danger that particular dog presents to you and your children. They are your first obligation, so if the danger and barking persist, I would not hesitate to call the police and report it as you have here. AND I would inquire as to whether or not there is an animal control officer who is responsible for handling complaints. If so, call him/her and report your concerns. As a final note, it is important that you do this because if you do not, and if anything happens, you will be asked why you did not say anything to the authorities. They will help you! Go for it!!

Good luck!!

Have you spoken to them about the dog barking? That's the first step.

Unfortunately, if they do nothing, your only remedy is to report them. If the dog is barking all the time when they're not home, you could contact animal control. But the noise complaint has to go to the police.

If you're living in fear, scared enough that you don't want them to know you reported them, perhaps it's time to look for another living situation.

If you don't want to call the police because they will know it's you, then you may need to get in touch with the homeowner/landlord and alert that person as to what is going on and have them put a stop to it. I understand being afraid of retaliation, but these people are never going to behave themselves if you don't get some form of law enforcement or authority involved. have you tried asking them to tone it down a bit? You can probably do it in a nice way so they won't get too bent out of shape.

Be careful. You can not do anything about the dog barking. but if the dog is loose where he can get to you or your child, then you should talk to your neighbor. Let him know your intentions if you have any trouble with the dog. Pit bulls make loving pets-but they can kill humans.

hook up a large speaker with a recording of a dog barking at the highest volume, and play it repeatedly towards the neighbor's house at all hours of the day and night. then buy a muzzle and set it on their front door step. maybe they will get the hint. also chose a type of music that you think they may not like & play it on the loudspeaker also for them to hear.

Go to the court house and file some papers ,I don't know what kind but they can tell you or call the court house and ask for Clerk of Court and tell them what you need to do and let the land lord know what you are going to do ,maybe if you tell him you are going to take out papers he may talk to your neighbor his self before bring the law in.I think that's disturbing the peace because if you tell a dog to stop barking he wont.so bring in the law.

Call the police or humane society/ASPCA/animal control. They will issue a warning. They owners will either have to get it to stop barking, and you can report them for disturbing the peace with their loud music. Hey, I have reported my neighbor for not taking care of their dogs, and I saw him punching their dog in the face. One of their dogs is gone now. They have never said anything or retaliated against us. They actually mow our yard sometimes.

if by chance you know their landlord, talk to him. I would not speak to your neighbors. Trust me. I have similiar neighbors, I tend to ignore them whenever possible. Same situation with the dogs & their children always seem to "wander" to my house. You can even call the humane society in your area and let them know about the dog. Good Luck!

If you don't feel that you can talk to them, call the police. You can bet that's what I would do. You shouldn't have to live with that. Some people are so inconsiderate, and it seems like renters are worse. I work for the police department and they won't tell who called on them.
