My cat jumps up on mr dresser and bed and my other dresser and scratches it all up. I have like wood furniture not metal! it's dark and where she scratches it, it goes through the paint and u can see the regular colored wood under it. Can it be refinished, repainted? If it can how much will it cost me?

To save yourself the expense of refinishing, why not try Howards Restore A Finish first? You get it in the paint department at Depot or Lowes for under $5. You can match the color stain on the furniture or get it in clear. You simply wipe it over the surface and it will fill in the scratches, leave a wonderful shine, make it look like new and won't damage the existing finish. It leaves a protective coating as well and won't soak into the wood like Scotts Liquid Gold. It also won't fade over time like the Old English does.

You can have your furniture refinished, but it's not cheap. You can also refinish the furniture yourself if you have plenty of ventilation (a driveway / garage is your best place to do it). You can buy the paint stripper at Home Depot. While it's a little bit of work, the results are very rewarding. You may even decide to keep the paint off and have a natural wood finish. Just use a little Danish oil when you're finished. Have fun!

I have an old wooden dresser that needs to be refinished. My husband and I are planning to strip it, then sand it, then stain it. I have seen this done before and the results are magnificent. It can be tedious especially if the furniture piece is large but, it is certainly worth the effort. The cost to do it yourself is pennies compared to what some places will charge. In fact, you can make money off of it once it's refinished and you get what you invested back.

Good luck!

Check locally via the yellow pages-- if no one is listed as refinisher, look under upholster--or unfinished furniture stores.
All else fails-- learn to do it yourself-- there are classes in community colleges--
AND you may not have to refinish or repaint--
Good luck
