Cause they can breed them with other dogs and get thousands of dollars for each puppy. It's terrible.

Not all purebreds are thousands of dollars and not everyone wants a mixed breed dog.Which by the way are selling anywhere from 750-1500 -how do you say well look at Goldiedoodles,Puggles etc all are mutts or hybrid dogs.Purebred dogs from reputable breeders have the temperament that breed is supposed to have and has been checked for genetic problems in so much as anyone can. But its not fair to say all people must go to the pound to get a dog-we live in countries where there is freedom of choice and certain people want certain breeds of dogs and are wonderful, caring owners and certainly are not ignorant of what goes on in the world like animal overpopulation

When you buy a purebred you're getting guaranteed traits, and health characteristics. Breeders of quality animals spend generations filtering out undesirable things like epilepsy, aggression, hip displaysia, eye problems, etc. Sure, you can get a very lovable animal at a pound or rescue center for next to nothing, and what you take home is what you get. If in 3 months it starts getting sick, you're now in love with it, and can spend thousands of dollars in health care costs. Most people buy puppys, not realizing that many animal diseases and problems don't show up until they are between 2 and 3 years old. If you buy a purebred puppy from a reputable breeder, you normally have a contract that gurantees the animal's health and disposition for a number of years. The extra few hundred dollars up front is a small price to pay for a healthy animal that will live to grow to an old happy age, and bring you that much more enjoyment.

They pay so much to a breeder because they don't realize what wonderful dogs can be found in shelters. An estimated 25% of dogs in shelters are purebreds so it is a great place to look for a dog even if you're set on getting a purebred. PetFinder.com will help you search shelter and rescue group dogs all across the country easily and for free.

Most people do not pay thousands for purebred dogs. Frankly I would never pay that much, altho I do love my purebred chihuahuas. The most that I have ever paid for one is $300. There is a website that sells them for up to $14,850 just because they sold Tinkerbelle to Paris Hilton. What a ripoff!! Anyone who would pay that kind of money for any kind of dog is nuts!! Some show breeders do charge thousands for their dogs. I think they are nuts too.

I do not know.. I am vehemently opposed to buying purebreds when there are so many loving pets being put to death every day at the Humane Society...
