I am not sure, but I think racism is someone's way of compensating for intense fear and insecurity, often about their mental acuity.
In other words, some dumb people would rather hate than learn.

I think you're asking this question in the wrong place. The short answer they are ignorant. I was once called basically a racist white ***** because I was quietly waiting for a group of guys to finish using a piece of equipment. They happened to be black. I was so shocked I had to turn around to see if there was anyone behind me making rude comments or something. Now that I look back on it and I believe they only did it for shock value.
Have you ever heard the metaphor? One boy is smart. Two boys are half as smart as one. Four boys are about 1/4 smart as a boy... You get the picture. Human nature sad but true. I don't know if the person that calle you that was alone, but I willing to bet that it was two or more. Too bad there isn't a place for 'Why are people ignorant........'

Unfortunately most people in this world are pretty stupid. And this is true for everywhere. It is very sad.
Stupid means they don't realize why they have racist feelings and why this is nonsense and idiotic.
The good news however is that there plenty smart people and many people who work on changing people's racist mindsets.
And it is getting better everyday - just when I look where I live, there are probably people from 20 different countries and 5 ethnicities on the beach when I go there.
And everybody is having fund with everybody - no question of race or looks or where they come from, what language.
But also start with yourself - look into yourself and ask yourself whether there are any people you reject or make fun of or tease in an aggressive way or just disrespect....Arabs? People with turbans who look like Bin Laden?
Or just the kid next door which looks stupid or smells bad? The underdog in the classroom? The one with outdated clothing?
Whatever it is - if you make fun or bad fun of someone who is different and does not "fit" your ideas this is the beginning o f the same feelings racists have.

Trust me its only ignorance. There are still many people that aren't also. I come from New Zealand which is so multi racial its fantastic. Everyone no matter what race you are are treated with respect here. It is getting better, it's just those few that let people in society down, they will never grow and be better people like you and me. Keep smiling cos you will realise sooner or later that the world isn't all bad!!

Martin Luther King, Jr. called it ignorance and conscientious stupidity.
"Nothing in the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity."
I also like:
"I refuse to accept the view that mankind is so tragically bound to the starless midnight of racism and war that the bright daybreak of peace and brotherhood can never become a reality... I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word."

Well.. I get called names in Africa, so why shouldnt you get called names in Vienna?
Maybe the world is getting smaller and we need to be reminded of our places?
I know where I belong, do you?
I suppose you have a place you call home? Do you get called names there? I suppose not.
So its all good, isnt it?

That's terrible! I'm sorry you were treated that way. We are all created in God's image. I am rather 'rosey' complected and my name is Rosie. Almost everyday of my life someone says "Oh wow! Your face is SO red! You need to use sunscreen"...and on and on they go. I just stand there and listen to them and stare at them until they finish. I get so sick of it. Usually I say, "That's because my name is Rosie"....and then I laugh. Or I say, "Oh, is it? Gee thanks. I'll do that." I don't let it get under my skin, tho, because people like that aren't ignorant. They are stupid! I hate racist people.

There are two races that people do not care about and those are the blacks and the Jews. It is a horrible realization but it is true! People can be very cruel.
