I have a high school diploma, 3 years of JROTC, an associates degree with 123 credits in telecom, and i lack 3 credits in a bach. in Info tech, so i have almost 200 credit hours. I was over awarded in student loans which meant that the day before my last class for a bach( a writing class) i was told that i had to pay 3000 dollars before i could take the class. i would, but it is hard to come by 3000 dollars with a new born. my question is what is the highest rank i can go in as? i had one recruiter tell me an e3 then after i learn my job (hopefully air traffic controller) i could go to osc(officer school). then i had another recruiter tell me that i can go in as an e4 and go to officer school right off the bat. which one is correct? and why would they tell me this?

Each service has its own rules on how much rank they give for education. In addition, certain military jobs get you other ranks as part of them.

I know that with an A.A., you go in as a PFC E-3 in the Army because that is what my son did last year. He did earn SPC E-4 at one year of service, at least partly because of his MOS as a computer network technician.

With that many college credits, you should be able to get SPC directly I think. The first link shows that with a Bachelor's derge you get SPC, but I am not sure if they will take the equivalent in credits.

The second link shows what the requirements are for OCS. You can go directly from basic with no job training completed if you meet those requirements.

Each recruiter has different understandings of the rules, so they may not be lying as much as misunderstanding the rules (not to say they don't lie also). Each service has different rules, and I am only familiar with the Army so I gave Army links.

You might want to check the service recruiter web sites and their questions link to get official answers in writing. You can always ask for the exact regulation they are quoting and check the regs on-line yourself.

You will come in as the higest you listed there, E3. Having 3 years of JROTC and an Eagle Scout will not get you E4 or anything like that. Enlisting with a bachelors degree can get you E4. If you go through all 4 years of College ROTC (AROTC, NROTC, AFROTC) then you would be an O1 and not enlisted. Also, having 3 years of JROTC or prior service will allow you to skip year 1 and year 2 of ROTC in college if you were to enroll as a junior for some reason. If you are enrolling as a sophmore, then you would still be a year 1.

Well actually, both are somewhat correct in the information that they gave you. In order to be accepted into OCS you must first take a test to determine if you eligible to participate in the course. This test will be taken before you actually enlist; ask your recruiter about this. When you enlist in the Army you should go through basic training and AIT as an E-3. If you were selected for OCS then you will enter OCS as a cadet and will be receiving either E-4 or E-5 pay during the course of the school.

Please verify this information through your recruiter first.

Recruiters are known to blow a lot of smoke up your @ss, to get you to sign up. Don't hesitate to ask a recruiter to speak with his commanding officer so that you can get the straight scope. You have that right, and I doubt that an officer will lie to you about your potential rank and OCS availability. Many recruiting stations do not have officers on board, so you may have to go to the local MEPS station to meet with an officer. Call ahead!

Recruiters are under tremendous pressure to make quota so now is the time to make a deal. Whatever deal you get I would INSIST on OCS right off the bat and get the deal in writing with NO loopholes.

OCS will lead to a whole 'nother world versus going in as a troop.

PAY BACK THE 3000, take that last class, AND GO IN AS AN OFFICER!!!!!!!!!!! AN OFFICER MAKES DOUBLE WHAT AN E3 DOES AND DOESN'T HAVE TO DO MANUAL LABOR!!!!! Trust me, I wish i finished my BS before i came in.

In the army, you can enlist as somewhere between an e-3 and e-5 (yes, the army unfortunately lets certain people who know nothing of the army come in as e-5s)

I am in the Air force, and I believe you can enlist as an e-3. you wouldn't be able to go to OTS (officer training school) until you have your degree. the air force however, has several programs..One of them, SOARS, is for students who is close to finishing their degree. You should look into it.

Not all recruiters lie, you just have to find an honest one. You would enlist as an E3.

It depends on a) which service, b) how badly the recruiters need to meet their goals, and c) how gullible they think you are. Ask for copies of all your paperwork (you should get them anyway) and get the OCS offer in writing.
