shopoholics and go into financial debt. In self-debt, the person denies and themselves of everything including not going to docotrs and dentists due to the money that has to be paid. Just like when shoppers get a high from shopping, self-debtors have anxiety so extreme when they have to spend money on even the bare essentials that they don't do it. So, how can this be handled. And please don't give an answer like "see a therapist" because remember that costs money and the person needs help to be able to spend money on themselves. So, what can be done?????

Well you're going to need to "trick" yourself into validating a therapist, because like it or not, that is exactly what you need. No answer out here on Yahoo is going to miraculously cure you right here and now. Cut out something else you are spending money on and make yourself understand that by cutting that out, you are freeing up money for the counseling. Also, if you have a full-time job, more than likely you have benefits and your insurance will cover almost all of the counseling sessions. Good luck.

You need to see things in a different light. Let me give you an example. As a counselor I use the term "re-framing." You said that even going to the dentist costs money. Therefore, you do not go in order to save money. O'k. Well, think of going to the dentist as SAVING MONEY. If you have your teeth cleaned twice per year, your dentist can check your dental health and prevent serious problems. If you do not go to the dentist because you do not want to pay for a cleaning, you will eventually have a more serious dental problem and a much LARGER dental bill. You see?
