Maybe. It depends on how big the cat is. By that I mean how long and tall and muscular.

Some cats can weigh well over twenty pounds and not be fat while others might be fat at ten or twelve pounds.

Does your kitty have a low-slung belly? Does it have soft protrusions hanging down below its lower belly? Can you feel its ribs? If the answers to the first two questions are yes, and the last one is no, your cat is fat.

If kitty is fat, it's diet time. Overweight cats are prone to develop diabetes and other serious ailments.

If kitty eats a lot of dry food, all you may have to do is switch to canned or pouched food. Dry food is high in calories and low in animal protein, which is the only kind of protein a cat can digest. All they can do with the plant proteins in dry food is turn them into fat, then live off the fat is if they were starving.

Yes, it is. When my son's cat was pushing 16 pounds I told him he needed to do something about it unless he would like the idea of giving the cat insulin injections for the rest of his life when he developed diabetes. We got that cat down to twelve healthy and beautiful pounds with a raw meat diet.

It has become common knowledge that humans who carry a lot of extra weight are more prone to have diabetes, cancer and heart problems.

Cats are suffering from this dietary excess too. Also as a cat gets older it can get painful arthritis which is exacerbated by having to carry excess weight.

Cats with excess weight often stop grooming themselves (especially keeping their bottoms clean) because they cannot easily reach these parts of their bodies. Because they cannot groom easily they are subject to painful matting, anal gland impaction and infections.

Ok, you just told us that your cat is fat and then asked if it was fat. What the hell? Of course your cat is fat and you know it. Quit feeding it so much or make sure it gets more exercise. I'd suggest yoga or Tae Bo.
