Rinse your toothache away. Take a mouthful of water at body temperature and rinse vigorously, If your toot ache is cause by trapped food,a thorough rinse may dislodge the problem. You can also take a shot to numb the pain, Hold a swig of whiskey over the painful tooth, Yours will absorb some of the alcohol and that will numb the pain, spit out the rest.

The best I found was Aleve in fact had couple pulled and the dentist had to knock the heck out of them the roots were froze to the jaw bone. No after pain with the Aleve. Sometimes its caused by food trapped in the gum between the tooth and gum so get a soft tooth brush and brush that area about 5 times a day for 2-5 days and swish salt water mixture in that area. It will work about 1/3 of the time. Then pay attention to that area if that was the problem.

I had an abcessed tooth that needed a root canal a few years ago. I swear that it was worse than childbirth.
I used whole cloves and listerine. Rinse your mouth out with listerine as often as you need to.
It sounds like, though, if it's too much for ibuprofen to take away, that you have an infection (most dental aches and pains are caused by an infection).
I couldn't afford a root-canal here in the states, so, I went to Mexico to have it done. That's convenient for me, because I live in Texas. It may not be as convenient for you, depending on where you are located in the US.
If you are in need of some major dental work, though, I would suggest asking your dentist about E-Z Pay Dental Plans, or you could call E-Z Pay's number and find out dentists in your area that support E-Z Pay. You have to have a checking account to use it, and it requires 20% down. After that, though, you can span out the rest of the payments for one year. Look into it if it's serious.
Until then, though, use the listerine, ibuprofen, and whole cloves (bite down on them. They have numbing properties like Ambesol and the like, but it's natural). Get to the dentist if the pain gets worse, is accompanied by swelling, or if you start developing chest pains.

Walmart - by the toothbrushes - toothache remedy. They even have filling stuff and just all kinds of do-it-yourself stuff for teeth!
If it is hurting because a filling fell out or because you have something in a cavity, rinse your mouth with 10 volume peroxide. The stuff you pour on cuts, etc. It will "boil out" the stuff that is in your tooth causing the pain.
Go to a dentist as soon as you can, and get it fixed.

I'd say asprin right on the tooth that's hurting (it helps me) warm salt water swished gently around your mouth(this also helped me) call your dentist asap! This was the best thing I did.

You could make an appointment with a dentist... but in the meantime use Maximum Strength "Anbesol" Gel.

Lay an aspirin on it, it tastes like crap but it helps. Or a shot of whiskey, keep it to the side of your mouth that hurts. (If you do the last one too often you WILL forget why you're doing it!)
Good luck
