Go to Start... Settings... Control Panel... Add or Remove Programs...
When the "Add or Remove Programs" Window comes up, check the box at the top that says "Show Updates". Then find the Update called "Windows Genuine Advantage Notification" and click on "Remove" button... then restart windows.

In Internet Explorer, go to Tools > Internet Options. It will default to the General tab. Click the Settings button, then clik the View Objects button. It will bring up a Downloaded Programs window, look for the entry Windows Genuine Advantage, then right click and delete it. Or, try this:

Lauch Windows Task Manager.
End wgatray.exe process in Task Manager.
Restart Windows XP in Safe Mode.
Delete WgaTray.exe from c:\Windows\System32.
Delete WgaTray.exe from c:\Windows\System32\dllcache.
Lauch RegEdit.
Browse to the following location:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\
Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify
Delete the folder ‘WgaLogon’ and all its contents
Reboot Windows XP.

Note: With this method, you may be prompted to install WGA Notifications again which can still be unselected.

Just let it run. Download it and let it install and run. All it is doing is checking to see if your copy of windows is pirated.

Are you worried about getting caught?

By the way, once you're seeing the notification there is nothing you can do. The software was designed to be impossible to remove or deactivate. You can't even roll back to a prior restore point to get rid of it. Have fun. =)

I would like to know the answer to that too. I suppose it would be to roll back your windows restore point to a time before you installed the update. That is, if you have your computer set to maintain restore points....
