Fast Food Myths
urban legends - corporate
The reason Kentucky Fried Chicken has changed their name to KFC is because they no longer use chickens, they've genetically created a food-animal that has no beak, feet or feathers and is fed through a tube until it reaches the proper size. KFC can no longer advertise chicken because of this, if you'll notice the word chicken has been removed from their menus and advertisements.
--Truth: "Fried" was removed from the title for business purposes, because greasy food is unappealing to many people.
McDonald's uses worm-meat in their burgers to save on costs.
McDonald's also serves kangeroo meat in thier burgers to save on costs.
No 2 countries which have McDonald's fast-food chains have ever gone to war.
McDonald's uses minute traces of chemical substances in their food to make it addictive.
McDonalds milkshakes are made with lard.
A child complained of being hurt while playing in the "ball pit" at a local McDonald's and pointed out a small red mark on his behind. His mother noticed something like a splinter just under the skin so made an appointment to have it looked at. Within a few hours the child went into a coma and died - the splinter had been the needle from a syringe full of heroin that had been discarded in the pit.
--Burger King is often used in different versions.
A girl ate a taco from Taco Bell that contained roach eggs, the eggs got into the lining of her mouth via her salivary glands.
Subway's Jarrett died from his rapid weight-loss.
Another version is that he died of a heart attack.

I think the biggest myth is that people care that fast food is bad for them.
Fast Food Nation stats that 96% of Americans eat at fast food. It's not the healthiest, we know, but it IS the cheapest. People save both money and time and think that a hamburger that's worth a dollar has value--and that includes labor.
But, sooner or later, the fast food companies are going to be sued for "causing obiesity." Just like how tobacco companies were sued because their product made people sick (imagine that!)

The one about McDonalds using chemicals isnt' a myth per se, you should check out "Fast Food Nation"- it makes you take a long hard look at the fast food you're eating ( or may not be eating). I read it for an English class and it's quite disturbing.

Mcdonalds milkshakes are made of mash potato and lard.
I think the one about Mcdonalds being addictive has some truth in it. That's why they don't tell anyone the ingredients.
Another reason why people think this is because we tend to drink a lot of coke in fast food places and caffeine is addictive.

I don't know whether this Chinese has a chain of restaurants but the company "Aroma" have been charged several times with using illegally imported dogs in there produce, there were discussions what they were putting the dogs into, and further investigations and reports said that they were selling their dogs to local Chinese takeaways around the area!!

I heard these many years ago. I heard that when Wendy's first opened they used ground earthworms in the meat to make it extra juicy. Also, a girl I know who worked at Long John Silver's said they had to pick out worms from the fish before they battered and cooked it.

Yeah, I heard that too. That it's no longer called "Kentucy Fried Chicken" because it technically isn't chicken. Something about the chickens are born with unusually large breats and no legs or heads. lol. That's an old one though.

I think this is true. Jack in the Box was caught using horse meat instead of beef years ago. I'm not sure if it's true but I think it might be..
