For all who wanna go there before they die... GO FOR IT!!! I did 3 yrs ago and loved it! I'm going again next year 'cause a 2 week vacation isn't nearly enough time to absorb all that she has to offer. Ever since I've been home, I've MISSED Egypt very much. The people there are SO GRACIOUS! They are very kind, really. True, it's hot and sandy (there's lotsa dust in the air, two showers a day is a must), overpopulated, overpolluted, noisy, traffic is horrendous, etc etc... but the beautiful hearts of the people make up for it by far.
Antiquities, they are amazing!! The pyramids of Geza, Saqqara, Dashur, all amazing. There are many tombs other than the pyramids, and the Sphynx is a sight to see. Riding on a camel in the Sahara is something I miss and look forward to doing again.
Cairo is full of nightlife! There are so many souks (bazaars) and cafes there. I miss going to the cafe, ordering Turkish coffee (mmmmmm!!!), and smoking shisha. Yum! It's such a beautiful experience. Over there, a cafe isn't a trendy place like Starbucks is here in the States. There, people go there to relax and enjoy good conversation with friends. It's such a beautiful experience, especially when there is traditional Arabian music playing.
Go to Khan El Khalili bazaar, but never shop alone or the price will increase ten fold. The goods there are so beautiful, shop after shop of twinkling, lovely Arabian goods.
Btw, Egypt is a very affordable vacation. You can spend around $3,000 to $4,000 USD for two weeks - including airfare - and live like royalty. Try doing that in Europe, impossible.
Ladies, if you're fat, good news... they LOVE bbw!!! Really, the Egyptian men are not shy about it, you will feel so beautiful. I'm really overweight, but never have I received more male attention than in Egypt. Not saying I took anyone up on it, no way, I'm a , not a ho'. However, there isn't a disgust for fat over there like there is in the West.
Go to Egypt, go go!

One of the birthplaces for the civilized world but also per-capita one of the poor nations in the world - however it has made many improvement over the last 30 years since my first time in the middle east. Sadly its government is only semi-democratic and the country suffers from actions (thought the government has dealt well with some of this) by muslim fundamentalist and other fanatics that have done nothing but harmed the nation as a whole.

The country is fascinating. The pyramids are an awesome creation of architecture and stone. The MEN, however, are the creepiest. Every single Egyptian man I have chatted with online asks the same questions (like they get them from a book or something), and they always want to marry me OR ask for money. And every single one of them always says "I am not like the other men you talk to, I am an honest man". Just like a record that plays over and over!!

Great place for studying history, for seeing ancient architecture and for experiencing an old culture that has changed comparitively little over the last 3 thousand years.
