Some "experts" (like Cooper) say that running is the best. Personally I like swimming because I can not take the pounding on the ground, it causes knee and back problems for me. I can get a good workout swimming laps for 20 minutes and sometimes get the "runners high" from it.

Swimming is better. Both will work your legs and your abs, but swimming works your arms too. Although lots of people say that running is the better cardio exercise. I don't know. Personally, I'd do a little of both.

I'm glad you asked this, b/c I've wondered the same thing. Everyone ahead of me has said swimming (which I personally do enjoy more), but I've heard that running is better for cardio. I'd like to find out for sure...

If you want to bulk up then go swimming, running is good but your only really working you legs and lower abdomen, but swimming uses muscles in you legs and arms so it more beneficial, and you burn around the same amount of calories.

Swimming, by far. No impact to the joints and both arms AND legs have to deal with the resistance of water.

It really depends on what your fitness goals are.
I know running is a better cardiovascular exercise than swimming.
