Not just any sin will send you straight to hell. Only mortal sins can do that.

A mortal sin is a grave infraction of the law of God that destroys the divine life in the soul of the sinner (sanctifying grace), constituting a turn away from God. For a sin to be mortal, three conditions must be present: grave matter, full knowledge of the evil of the act, and full consent of the will.

Most of the sins we commit are venial sins. Venial sin is a sin which does not destroy the divine life in the soul, as does mortal sin, though it diminishes and wounds it. Venial sin is the failure to observe necessary moderation, in lesser matters of the moral law, or in grave matters acting without full knowledge or complete consent.

However consistent unrepentant venial sins can slowly destroy your relationship with God and become mortal sin.

People die all the time with venial sins on their conscience and they will go to heaven.

With love in Christ.

When I was a young girl, I went to the cemetery with my grandmother (catholic) to clean the area around our family plot. I noticed an area out of the way at the very edge of the cemetery marked with several simple crosses. I asked her what those were and she told me that those were the graves of the babies that passed away before they could be baptized into the church (original sin). I don't think she told me that they would go to Hell though - it was either Limbo or Purgatory. I remember thinking how horrible it was that the babies were buried alone - cast away from everyone else who had passed away and most likely committed more sin. I thought the fact they were buried away from everyone else should be a sin. God didn't make that rule - neither did Jesus or Holy Spirit. A man made that rule - another 'sinner'.

Everyone has beliefs or has been taught beliefs on what someone thinks everyone should believe to be the absolute truth. People have committed plenty of sins in the act of defending those truths they believe to be the word of God.

Mortal, Cardinal, Venial sins - I really don't think it matters. We were all given a conscience and free will. I know plenty of people that can be very mean and hateful and go to church every Sunday and repent just to go out and do it all over again Monday through Saturday. I think you find the answers in learning from your mistakes. The truth is inside you - in your heart. You know what 's right and what's wrong (hopefully). If something makes you feel bad/negative inside, don't do it. Be good to others. Don't do things out of anger to hurt others.

I can't and no one on Earth can tell you for sure what your alternatives may be once you pass from this life. I can gaurantee you that everyone has an opinion and they will try to convince you it is the right way to be but you have to listen to yourself.

If you be good to yourself and others and generally respect life around you (plants, animals, the environment) and do things out of care and love, not anger or hate - you'll be doing alright.

Best of luck.

Hello friend,
Yes, but it's probably not the sin you're thinking of.
Everyone who's in Hell, or goes there ends up there because of the same sin. Unbelief.
Please read John 3:18.
Sure, any and all other sin compounds the horrors of Hell, but it only takes one sin to gain you entrance there.

But the good news is that no one has to go there. While in this life, if you choose to accept Christ at His Word, you won't go there. And that's my prayer for all.

I suggest to all that it's a good idea to keep a short account with God. Don't sin and let sins accumulate without repentance.
Unrepented sin causes a hardened heart and separates you from God. Not in relationship, but in fellowship.

Hope this helps.
Blessings,
2 Tim. 2:7

Many Protestants believe that, but Catholics (who make up more than half the Christians) believe that there are different degrees of sins. They believe that if you die with a mortal sin, you will go to hell. But if you have committed minor sins, you will go to Purgatory to be punished for your sins before being allowed into Heaven.

The reason for this difference in beliefs is that the justification for Purgatory is in one of the books of the Bible that Martin Luther decided were not the holy word of God. Consequently, most Protestants do not believe in purgatory.

Many other Protestants believe that acts don't matter, and only belief in Jesus matters in terms of getting into Heaven.

Personally -- I think all of it is a load of crap.

yes, if you aren't saved. All people are born sinful, so there is no person who hasn't sinned. So we all deserve to go to Hell forever.

But, God made a way for anyone to be forgiven so that they don't have to go to Hell, even if they have sinned (and everyone has sinned). That way is to repent and believe on (and obey) Jesus Christ.

It is your first sin that sends you to Hell. We are born sinful so that we all sin tons of times every day. This is why there is no hope without Christ.

Depends on the sin. there are mistakes and there is sin. God knows the diff.Commiting a sin does not send you to hell . God does not send you to hell Just like Adam & Eve we all have a choice. Choose this day who you will serve you can not serve God & Satan. What send's us to hell is the rejection of Christ( imgiane someone you loved being in a car wreck and they died from it and there blood was spilled all over the road. What would that make you feel if no one cared to clean up the blood and it was walked over and trambled over it would hurt right?) Now imgiane what God feels like when we say no to his son when he spilled his blood for us!!!!!!!!!!!!!! God Bless

There is no hell. Hell is a concept created thousands of years ago to keep people in line. To keep them from misbehaving and doing 'bad' things before there were police and courts to enforce the laws.
Hell was meant to scare us into behaving.

The only 'sins' are doing things that hurt other people, and it's only a 'sin' if you think it is.

All who die go to hell for it is the grave. It is not a place of eternal torment like the churches of Christendom teach. God is love and would never think of torturing anyone. He is also a God of justice. How just would that be to burn someone forever?
This is what happens to someone who dies:
"Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest." Ecclesiastes 9:10
"For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing--" Ecclesiastes 9:5
So do the dead feel pain? Are they suffering in any way? God's Word tells us they feel nothing and know nothing. In fact, the Bible likens death to being in a deep sleep.
God promises that death & hell (graves) will soon be gone forever: "And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death." (Revelation 20:13,14) The "lake of fire" represents total destruction.

It depends on if you have been or are planning to be baptized or not. Without baptism you are accoutable for Original Sin. If you have been baptized, then it depends on if the sin was a Mortal or Venial Sin. Unconfessed (to a Priest) Mortal Sins put you in Hell and Venial Sins don't.

yes,if you are not saved (1 John 2:1-2 NIV) [1] My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have one who speaks to the Father in our defense—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. [2] He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world. And yet again we see the same thoughts. If a Christian sins, it should be something that is out of character for them, something that over took them and they stumbled, if that happens then Jesus will be our advocate and speak in our defense. He will not speak in defense of someone who is no longer in the faith or who wants to live a life of sin.
