I have a 6 year old white and brindle bully named Gringo. He is honestly the best dog I have ever had. The breed is aggressive and can be dominant, but I believe with the proper training any dog is suitable to be around children and family members. This definitely is also a guard dog, a very good one. My dog does show some dominance at the door, even when we invite guests in, but we are working on it and making good progress. Gringo is stable and well socialized. He has never knocked over and children or elderly people. These are dominant dogs, and you must be capable of showing them that you are in charge. They can be stubborn, but my boy has been ready to please since the day I brought him home. He gets two or three 15-20 minute walks everyday, and some supervised play time and I believe this contributes to his excellent behavior. This is a breed I love, and I will always have a Bull Terrier in my home.

A Bull Terrier might have a preventive effect and it might defend it's owner in a truly critical situation, but it isn't breed to be a guard dog. The Bull Terrier is a loyal, polite, and obedient dog. They become very attached to their owners. They do not do well in situations where they are left alone for 8 hours a day. Fond of both grown-ups and children, but may be too energetic for small children. They cannot tolerate teasing and children should be taught to respect the dog. They can be very protective and willful. Bull Terriers must be given a lot of companionship, or they may become destructive. They can be extremely aggressive with other dogs. Unaltered males usually do not get along with other male dogs. Males and females can live together happily and two females can also be a good combination with care and supervision. They are not recommended with other pets. They make excellent watch dogs.

They are very devoted. More so if they are females. You always have to be very careful with this breed. But you never know what makes a dog feel threatened. They sense things we can't. They are more family oriented. Your dog may not be too social. And then you will have to act accordingly.
