I am aware that neutering a male dog causes its testosterone to lower resulting in a fat lazy un-fun dog, does spaying a female dog cause any behavior changes? Or does it still act the same after being spayed? I am asking this as I have 2 male dogs and I'm adopting a female, I don't want them to have pups and I don't want to cruely neuter my male dogs.

I had a female dog that I got spayed and she was just as playful as the day I got her. So I would say no but I think it depends on the breed.

There are no known behavioral changes evident from spaying or neutering. Physically, they tend to gain weight.

Oh, it's not cruel to spay a female, but it is a male? Get real, neutering is a much less expensive procedure and most males are back to normal within 24 hours. Spaying is invasive surgery with much more complications, compare it to a hysterectomy! Besides, what's stopping your male from impregnating another dog? Two neuters would be cheaper than one spay.

Actually neutering your dogs is not a cruel thing to do, it can actually prevent a host of health problems down the road. We have a border collie that is fixed, it did not make him lazy or unfun, he is the same crazy loving BC. We also have a female bc/chow mix, she is also fixed, still the same dog, but just a few extra pounds, they are both getting into their senior years. So if you dont want pups, best bet is get all your dogs fixed, plus populating the world with unwanted pups is not good, too many homeless dogs/puppies in this world to begin with.

It would be cruel to bring your female dog into a household of unneutered males. Unless you are fully intending to use both males as stud dogs, please PLEASE neuter your males. I've had every male dog I've owned neutered. They do not become fat and lazy. They just no longer hump everything in sight. They are still energetic and fun-loving. Spay the female if you get one as well. If one of your dogs got loose, something might happen. There are enough unwanted puppies in the world as it is.

Female also need to be spayed for medical reasons they can develop most types of illness that human woman go through and get. It really won't effect her disposition too much. But if you are adopting one throguh the pound or animal shelter she will be fixed requardless. It is there policy to do that anyway. If she is spayed you have to watch the males if they aren't they will try and impregnate her and they could begin to fight over her. The dominant one will prevail.

Will may animal’s behavior change after being altered?
Your animal’s behavior will not change except that male dogs and cats will be less likely to fight, roam and spayed females will no longer go into heat.

Will my animal become fat and lazy after being altered?
Your animal will not get fat and lazy after being spayed or neutered unless you feed him/her too much. To keep your pet healthy they should get regular exercise: walking for dogs, toys and scratching posts for cats.

Will my cat or dog feel pain during surgery?
Your cat or dog will be under anesthesia during surgery, and will feel no pain. You should keep the animal quiet after surgery while she or he heals. Dogs and cats should be kept indoors; dogs walked on a leash.

My male dog who has been fixed is the same. Not fat or lazy by far. but I know what you mean. We got out female fixed at 7 months and I don't notice a difference. But who is to say how it will effect each dog. It is not cruel to fix your dogs IT'S THE RESPONSIBLE THING TO DO!!!!!

just had my pug spayed and she seems to be acting the same. we had here spayed about 2 or 3 weeks ago and there is no change so far. I would probably go ask the vet though to make sure.

you probably won't see any change, she just won't come into heat. Actually if there i any slight change spayed females retain their playfulness just a hair longer - the hormone shifts of the heat cycle convince many female that they should get serious cause they may have a family to raise.
