If you are flossing and brushing correctly and daily and have no dental problems (such as pain), then I wouldn't worry about it until you do. There are many dentists that work cheaply, for instance some Sears have dentist offices in them. Granted, you'd be going in and paying more....but think of all the money you're saving by not going now.

Depending on where you live, Medicaid usually covers dental care. You should see if you qualify based on your income.
Or you may qualify for dental services under a Medically Indigent program (usually run by counties or public hospitals)
Contact a branch of the American Dental Association (check your phone book). They are usually aware of programs you could qualify for or dentists who are willing to make payment plans (most will).
Check if you have a dental school in your area-- they often provide free care in exchange for a learning opportunity (the students are well suervised.)
Dental care is relatively affordable. You should ask for prices for office visits and cleanings-- it may be alot less than you think.
The BEST dental insurance is getting you teeth cleaned twice a year. Flossing and brushing are great-- you might look into a "sonic care" electric toothbrush. They have come down considerably in price, and really help w/ gum health.
Good luck.

Buy a dental pick tool to scrape off the tartar from your teeth. The easiest place to remove tartar is from the front lower teeth near the base.
Also, the Sonicare electric toothbrush is great. But it is expensive. If you cannot afford the dentist, you may have trouble purchasing this toothbrush. But it is a lot better than a regular toothbrush.
Eventually you will need to go to the dentist for a real tooth cleaning.

Brush after every meal. Floss once a day. Avoid refined sugar and other sweets.
I just went to the dentist. It was 90$ for an exam, 75$ for cleaning and the doctor wants to pull my wisdom teeth for 420$.

I do agree that you should look for some dental schools that do free and discounted dental work if you have a serious problem or need help, or have any pain. I also read on one of the dental sites, that hydrogen peroxide is excellent as a mouth wash to kill germs and bacteria! They say it is very effective, more so than any mouthwash on the market you can use. I have been using it myself, and my breath is fresher, and my mouth feels cleaner. you can even use it to gargle with if you have a cold or sore throat! Hope I helped some.

look in your phone book and see if there is a college near you with a dental school. The students need people to practice on, and they are overseen by actual dentists. It's usually free to be treated that way.
