Judeo-Christian tradition has taught for thousands of years:
1. Single people should be celibate.
2. Married people should be faithful to each other (adultery is wrong).

The Catholic Church recognizes the power of sex when it teaches, "Sexuality affects all aspects of the human person in the unity of his body and soul."

Chastity means the successful integration of sexuality within the person. A chaste person's body and spirit lives in unity and opposes any behavior that would impair that unity.

Masturbation is contrary to the human dignity of the person and anyone about whom the person has lustful thoughts, and the dignity of human sexuality.

With love in Christ.

That would depend on you and if you feel it is so. From a Christian perspective, if you feel convicted by God then maybe you shouldn't be doing it but if you do not then maybe it is not wrong for you. You want to make sure that conviction is from God and not of Satan because he may try to use it to shame you or make you feel like you are undeserving of God's grace and mercy. There is a good book called The Struggle by Steve Gerali that I actually just bought today. It is about masturbation and so far is very good, candid, open, straightforward and biblical about the topic. You can also visit this website, the marriagebed.com, it has a lot of good information about sexual things, like masturbation, and gives them all from a biblical standpoint. It is a really good place to go for questions like this and their stuff about masturbation is definitely worth your time. You should really check it out. If you want to know if it is a sin or not then I suggest you talk with God, he can tell you better than any of us here in YA! Anywho, I hoped this helped. ToodleLoo

It starts with the definition of sin

Sin is anything done through thought, words or deeds that hurts another being.

Being means that which has a soul within and can feel pain, externally or internally, physically or emotionally.

So far by the above 2 sentences the answer is obvious.

So then let us proceed a little more subtly in the spiritual sense.

Who is this body that is masturbating?
Who within the body is deriving the pleasure?
Is the body taking the pleasure or are You enjoying it?
Who are You within this body?

Are you hurting your self through this practice?
Are you satisfied with it by doing it?
Does it take its toll on you?
Do you have to hide and do it?
Are you man or woman enough to admit its joy and beauty?
Does it make you feel guilty?
Why does it make you feel guilty?
What is the connection between sin and guilt?

Are you coming closer to the answer of your original question?

Now if you are interested in learning more about this pleasure and the pain that follows after it is over, read the book
Who am I?

Some intepret the following passage as speaking indirectly about masturbation:

Mathew 5:28: "But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart."

Since masturbation generally requires thinking lustfully about others, this becomes can read as an indirect prohibition of masturbation. Other interpretations are possible, particularly if we read this verse (and it's surrounding chapter) as merely Matthew demonstrating to us that we are all sinful (no amount of Lawfulness will prevent sin)salvation. In this reading, we are told that our very nature (of which lust is one aspect) we are sinful, and thus we cannot find any way to salvation ourselves. The consequence, detailed later on in the Gospel, is that only the intercession of the Lord leads us to salvation.

No it is not a sin. i do not believe in sin at all. as anyone that dies and is nasty still get blessed for forgiveness. Masturbation is natural and a lot safer then playing around getting STD of some kind. Anyone who tell you it is a sin don't listen to them, no doubt they still do it or even have done it in the past.

Don't expect to find an answer in the world's religious books. They all disagree therefore the information is worthless. just get on and enjoy it. You won't go blind, become a dribbling moron, it won't drop off, you won't catch VD and nobody will get pregnant. If you get caught, people might have a good laugh though. Mind you, some people like being watched as well - dead kinky!

No, I do not see anything in the new testament which says that it is a sin. I think it would only become a sin when it becomes an obsession

Most things that are supposedly a sin (whatever that is) seem like pretty good fun to me. If it is then I'm in serious trouble along with many millions of other people. I would lust after thy neighbours *** but her husband is still home.Never mind, he'll be asleep soon.

Having read all the answers- only because i KNEW no-one would answer correctly and i think you all should know the truth- here is the correct answer: yes, it IS a sin. You should get married if you cant control yourself. Why it is a sin, God knows best, but it is scientifically true that it leads to impotence, weak eyesight and infertility (honestly, this is shocking but true). But hardly anyone seems to know this....oh dear...

Well some might argue the spilling of the seed analogy, but that makes no sense seeing as how if you don't use it you lose it. Sperm dies anyway in the body and more is created everyday. It is going to die anyway, weather you release it or not. So in truth, whats the harm.
