The ability to almost unerringly pick tthe gender of your child has existed for about twenty years now. The technology was actually first developed for dairy farmers - such a person naturally wants a lot of female bovines and no male ones! It took almost no adaptation to get it to work on humans.
The current owners of the technology, however, do not want to introduce the possibility of a gender imbalance. For this reason, they only allow parents to use it who already have a child, and then only to produce a child that is against the gender majority. So if you have a boy, you can choose to have a girl, but not another boy. The procedure is very expensive in any case.
It involved dyeing the sperm involved before it fertlizes an egg (perhaps that goes without saying since most cows are impregnated by artificial insemination). Each sperm will have either an X chromosome or a Y one... and the X one (rather obviously) is larger. The dye causes all the DNA to flouresce, and even a small difference in illumination, like that between an X and a Y is picked up by a sensor which then filters the sperm appropriately.
Personally, I don't know how many more children I am going to have. Since there is a substantial possibility I'm only likely to have one more, I can see how tempting it might be to use such technology and make sure I can have a girl instead of another boy. Of course, right now that's the LEAST of my problems - I'll need a woman first! ( :

I think It would depend on the circumstances, for example... If I had 4 boys and desperately wanted a girl, then yes I would want to pick the sex of my child.

Not a chance. First of all, the method of doing so is incredibly cold (I don't mean temperature-wise) and distant between you and the father of the child. When I have children, I want it to be the result of nature. I also want to feel the suspense of waiting to find out the sex of my child. The anticipation is half the fun, and so is picking out baby names for both, just in case.
If everyone chose the sex of their children, we would be one step closer to living in an artificial world. What would be next? Choosing your child's hair color? Eye color? IQ? It's ridiculous.

No, I wouldn't. There are Positive and Negative things about each gender. I would be happy with whatever God gave me. For instance, when you have a teen-age girl, she'll need pads, tampons make-up , and you'll have to make sure she doesn't get pregnant. A teenage boy might drink, smoke, and do other bad things. the plus side is that a teenage girl won't have enough time for drinking and smoking, and a teenage boy doesn't need pads, and makeup.

No...(they can do that right now - I believe it's currently in China/Japan) and that means aborting the sex of the child you don't want! Children are children - and when it's your own, it doesn't matter if it's a boy or girl - you will love it unconditionally!

No. The decision on your child's apperance, personality, etc should be left up to GOD. I wish these scientists would stop trying to play God. I am not a holy roly or anything of the sort, but I have my beliefs, and this one stands true- people need to quit playing God, yall gonna make him mad

NO.
When people start doing that it will mean disrupting the sex ratio. And what will happen then? Men VS Women are almost totally equal. Somehow mother nature knows.

I wouldn't if it meant fertilizing outside the body....running tests on an embryo, or genetically altering a zygote.
BUT>> if we're just talking from "wishful thinking," yes, I would.
I like boys.
I'd rather be able to choose "healthy."

Before I had my second, I would have chosen to have a boy and girl. I'm happy I didn't chose cause having boys is great. I must admit I'm a bit of a tomboy so I guess I'm more suited to mothering boys.
