I just had my 14th b-day, and I went with my mom to get our car worked on, and she asked what kind of car I wanted for my 16th b-day if I got one.My parents like Toyotas and I was looking at the Toyota Spyder.

I don't know much about it, but is it a good car?

Do you know of a small, sporty toyota with a really good crash safety rating? maybe convertable?

I'm not a very risky person so i'll probably not be risky while driving a bunch of metal around.

The Toyota MR2 Spyder would be lots of fun, but wait until you're a little older to drive a car like that, because the insurance will be very expensive. I definitely recommend Toyotas though- Camry, Corolla or Tacoma would be a great first vehicle. Pretty much any modern-day Toyota should be safe and have a good crash-test rating. Also good options would be a Chevy Cavalier, Cobalt, or Malibu or a Pontiac Grand Am or G6. And a Nissan Sentra or Altima would be good options too. Toyota does have the Solara convertible, but it's much bigger than the Spyder and it's not small or sporty. Just do lots of shopping around, because there are so many cars that are good for a first-time driver.

new car drivers need something slow, safe and reliable. Nothing else. New drivers should be banned from sportscars and SUVs. I dont care what you say, new drivers ARE NOT GOOD. ive never met a 16 year old whos a good driver (myself included).

I would suggest something like an old volvo 240 or 850. carollas, camrys and the such work also.

note: im only 19, so its not like im a parent, im just being real.

edit: WTF is a toyota spyder. That just means toyota convertable. You can have an eclipse spyder (horrid choice), or an MR2 spyder (even worse choice).

Forget the rest. You should look into getting a used Toyota CELICA. It's small, sporty, SUPER RELIABLE and is a great gas saver! I prefer the 94-99 body style--smooth, sexy & curvy--(kinda resembles the Toyota Supra) 4-5 grand will get you a very decent one. You can find one in convertible too. The newer (00-04) Celicas look more like spaceships.

A Buick or a big Mazda. Anyway the insurance in a small sport Toyota is going to be really expensive.

Nissan sentra, toyota corolla, or anything else small, cute, and efficient. If I were you, I would also go used..you can get it fully loaded with just a few miles for a lot less than a new car.

Get a great big 4 door Chev Caprice from 1980 to 1993. It's about the safest car on the road, It will keep you safe if you get into a accident. And plenty of room for your friends to cruise with.

don't think ur parents are gonna go for a small toyota sports car for a new driver...think of something more reasonable, like a corolla

A Toyota Corolla would be a good "beginner" car, you can find them sheap enough, decent maintenance, and still affordable enough to repair.
