well fluffy,it's like this....
you know how you might drop a lipstick into the kerb sometimes(when you're really pissed) and it rolls forward in the gutter, past the mascara that you dropped at the same time but didn't notice...well, the lipstick is offside.

A player is in an "offside position" when there is fewer than two defenders between that player and the goal.
A player is offside when 1) he is in an offside position (see above) and 2) the ball is passed in his direction.
Note, a player may receive a pass while in a offside position without being offside if that player was "onside" when the ball was struck to start the pass. In other words, one the passer strikes the ball the forward is free to run like heck.
Also if a player is not involved in the play, say down in the left corner, when the ball is played to the right side, then they are not considered offside even though they may be in an offside position.

If there the attacking player(1) is infront of the last defender(not goalie) when another attacking player(2) (team mate) kicks the ball, and he takes advantage, player (1) is offside.
Or the has to be a defender inline with/ between the attacker and goalie when another attacker kicks the ball forward!

the ofside rule comes into play when yopu get a man and a woman who want each other traveling on a boat, they decide to get naked and jump overboard, they use the offside to do this so no one can see them. thus the offside rule.

when the guy kicks the ball to his mate there has to be at least two defending players in front of his mate. Doesn't apply if it is their own half.
Something like that - I learnt it at school twenty years ago and never watch football.

Soccer?....when the forward is behind the defense, and the ball gets passed to him. He doesn't have to touch the ball, it just needs to go in his direction.

when your team wants to pass you the ball for an attack you must not be closer to the other goalkeeper than the other teams furtherest back player at the time of the pass
