U.S. and U.S.A are just shortened forms of United States or United States of America. It shouldn't be that confusing:)

The UNITED STATES OF AMERICA is a very long name & ppl just use abbrev. of it instead of saying or typing THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.Who could be confused? Other ppl in other countries say AMERICA or USA or UNITED STATES and call us AMERICANS,not THE AMERICANS OF THE UNITED STATES. Is that plain and clear so that you are not confused?I hope so because America does so much for other countries& I would hate for them to be confused when they thank us or decide to help us when we need it.AMERICANS are proud and would have no need to confuse ppl with such a small thing anyway.

The official name is The United States of America. US and USA is just a short way of saying The United State of America...........
America is the name of the continent of America and anyone born in that continent of America is an American. The continent of America has many countries such a Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Nicaragua and many more, so anyone born in Mexico is an American, anyone born in Brazil is an America, anyone born in Venezuela is an America.
America is one and only one, it is divided into South America, Central America and North America, it is one, and there is no such thing as the Americas.....
Example: Europe is one continent and anyone born in that continent is a European, Africa is a continent and anyone born in that continent is an African...and so on....There is no such thing as the Asias, the Europes, The Africas....

'The United States of America' is the full name of our country, commonly it's referred to only by the last word 'America' sort of in abbreviation....in full abbreviation it's known as the U.S. of A., or USA, or US.
