Are those your only choices? Not to mention, California is huge, so where in CA?

I would personally pick neither. Colorado is much better

I spent over 50 years in Southern California. It has lost it's luster. Housing is outrageously expensive, it is congested, polluted, crime ridden, the schools are terrible, the people are stressed out and uptight. We moved to the Dallas Fort Worth area a year ago and also carefully considered Florida. The area of Florida that appealed was the Pensacola area as it seemed like it still had affordable housing. The problem with Florida, at least the coastal areas was the hurricane factor and the humidity.

The nice thing about both Florida and Texas is that there is no state income tax. Florida has quite a bit of crime in a lot of their cities though. We live in a suburb of Dallas that is very safe, excellent schools, good shopping, good recreation, relatively unpolluted. You can buy a brand new home with 3400 sqft all brick in a conforming subdivision with parks, walking trail and community pool for $190,000. The median income is higher here than my California town, there are lots of young families and everyone is friendly. The weather is a little hotter in the summer and a little colder in the winter than Ca. but energy costs are still less. Gasoline runs 40-50 cents less per gallon than in Ca. Car registration and car insurance is less than Ca.

I could choose to miss the ocean but I have learned to love Lake swimming and recreation just as much.

There are plenty of job opportunities in the DFW area, you are close to an international airport and there are as many cultural opportunities as So. Cal.

But if your choices are only Ca or Florida, take Florida. There is a very good website where you can check out demographics of various cities. To follow

To be honest, Florida is better.

In Florida, I would STRONGLY recommend against the Fort Lauderdale area.

The Tampa Bay Metro area is much larger, much more diverse, yet much more laid back, more beautiful, and much cheaper to live in.

The cost of living in the Tampa Bay area is 22.23% CHEAPER than in the Fort Lauderdale area. Yet the Tampa Bay area had the NUMBER ONE ranked beach in the U.S. in 2005, Hawaii included (the beach was Fort DeSoto County Park)!

The Tampa Bay Metro area also recently overtook the Miami-Fort Lauderdale Metro area as the largest metro area in Florida in population! With that, plus the fact that Tampa Bay is far more ethnically diverse than most other U.S. Cities in the East (compares with Chicago and New York), it makes for MUCH more to see and do! And don't forget that you're only an hour's drive from Orlando, as well!

You can learn more about the area by going to

You can find places in CA where the weather is nice all year round; all of FL is very hot and humid in the summer. CA is much more culturally diverse than FL. CA has earthquakes every once in a while; FL has hurricanes almost every year.

I'VE LIVED IN FLORIDA 16 YEARS
IT IS THE PITS
HOT, HUMID CAN'T BREATHE FOR 7 MONTHS OUT OF THE YEAR
EXPENSIVE ON THE EAST COAST - THAT WOULD BE FT. LAUDERDALE...............VERY LOW PAYING JOBS AND MOST ARE UNDER 39 HRS A WEEK SO THAT THEY DON'T HAVE TO GIVE YOU HEALTH BENEFITS.......TRY CALIFORNIA
