Just as you read what you want to hear from the bible and disregard the rest.

Most Christians don't actually read the Bible. They go to church where a small passage is read from the Bible. The preacher then tells them what it means, and what to think about it. Each religious sect picks the passages and the spin they want based on their beliefs. I've yet to meet a Christian that has actually read the Bible which is astonishingly hypocritical.

Well I for one have read the entire Bible completely word for word every year for the past 10 years now. Most Christians I know, study often and try very hard to apply the principles daily. I would suggest that I do answer from knowledge and experience. Sometimes I do not like what I read in the Bible because it reminds me how I have sinned. However, often I see God's plan to see us with Him for eternity and I am joyful. One who reads and just reads what they want to read or read into what they want to believe are not reading at all. They are simply looking for support for their own opinion or position. Having been more of a humanist that I would now like to admit, I am glad to Be a Christian now. All of our moral code, legal systems, and order comes from the Bible. Had God not given it, life would be a disaster. No order, now law no right or wrong, an unmitigated disaster. I am afraid soon some will see it.

First of all; please, ask a question not make an assertion in the questions section of Yahoo.
Second, part of the problem is that scriptural Christianity and the lives of people here in America tend to differ. At the root of it, Christianity holds that Christ is superior to man; not equal to man (man is a false god; Gen. 3). All men make mistakes; (for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Romans 3:23).
There is a man-made old testament of Genesis-Malachi, and the scriptural old testament; i.e. the law of Moses. (Per scripture, the old testament was done away; Hebrews). The Jews were told to have two or more witnesses (about three times Deut. 10-20), and the Christians were given the same command (Matt. 18:16, 2 Cor. 13:1). When this concept is applied, one finds the 'old testament' is the law of Moses. My 'two or more witnesses' for that assertion include Joshua (Joshua 8:31), David (2 Kings 2:3), Solomon (1 Kings 8:9), Nehemiah (Nehemiah 8:1), Daniel (Daniel 9:11-13), Malachi (Malachi 4:4)i, Jesus (Matt. 19:7-9), God the Father (Matt. 17; in effect he backs up whatever Jesus his Son says), and the apostle Paul. (The law is referred to as the old testament (KJV), many other English versions translate it as old covenant in 2 Cor. 3:13-14). The law of Moses starts in Exodus 20. Perhaps this is part of why the beast in Revelation 17 is the USA, and the harlot Babylon is the leadership of the USA. (See what happens to the beast and harlot in Revelation 18).
God apparently had me think of this text recently; Acts 18:24-28 (please read) regarding Priscilla, Aquilla, and Apollos. Apparently, Apollos was eager to grow. I hope many Christians in this country presently are in the Apollos category.

that could be. But, we learned how to read. WE don't use assertions in the question column and we certainly don't use a question mark to dilineate the two statements. Do you have a question?

Broad generalizations are risky business. What about those of us who read every question with a keen awareness that someone such as yourself will scrutinize our answers? What about those who actually answer the question without referring to scriptures (as requested) with our own logic and not using the term "cos the bible says so that's why you moron you."

I personally have done in depth studies in several of the books in the Bible and I think some of the questions that are put on this site are laughable. And the posts come from people who couldn't construct a logical argument if you threatened to take them out and shoot them unless they did so.

I don't read what I want to hear from the bible. Do you think it makes me feel good to know that scripture tells us that "all have sinned and come short of the glory of God?" Do you think I want to read that in that final day some will say "Lord, Lord" and He will say, "depart from me I never knew you." Do you think we like reading that He will wipe away our tears because there will be those we love who won't get into heaven?

It is a great book to know that "God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son" but there is so much more that we would like to not read. Because we live in a lost and dying world. Do you get that? Do you understand that young men and women are killing one another on the streets of america's cities because of hate, poverty, distrust, drugs, sex, lies? We just want to spread some light in this total decay.

Sorry---just trying to make a few "assertions" of my own to follow up on what you "asserted." Hope I did not offend. But if I did----that's too bad. Cos sometimes you have to hit a mule in the head with a 2x4 in order to get his attention. :-)

Not only that, but one church (denomination) is quick to dismiss another. I've asked Pentecostals and Baptists some questions, with reference to scriptures that are relevant to other churches (such as the 7th Day Adventists, Jehovah's Witnesses, and, yes, Catholics) and I always get the same type of response, along the lines of "those people are not saved".

It's very comforting to know that each group is saying much the same about any of the others. Try talking to any of them and mention another Christian denomination's beliefs (include scripture if you can) and see what happens -- finger pointing and blame, but no real answer!

how dare you say Jesus doesn't ex- oh wait. what was the question?

uh hum. anyways.
most don't actually read the bible. they believe what ever they were taught. i myself have read the bible a few times, and figured out what religion is closest to it from that (and i mean ALL the bible. i don't let personal views shade the bibles teachings, or let in what i think is right., thats just wrong.) i didn't stick with what i was taught (catholic) because i realized how far from the bible it truly was.
unfortunately alot of my family are still to blind to see. and they don't even read the bible. they attend church occasionally and that's suitable for them.

Well at least we read the Word of God and believe it as well.It is more than you can say.Christianity is not for sissies. That is why there are so many atheists around. To afraid of the challenges satan will throw at them.Cowards all of them. They don't realize that the war has already been won.So we don't read the questions and our answers are laughable. At least our salvation is not.
