I know he said some bad stuff and hurt them but he did apologize at least twice and sounds very sincere. He didn't give an excuse but seeks help with his problem of alcoholism etc. why can't people just get past it and say look this guy has a problem and he is being upstanding and trying to fix it, he apologized and is seeking help - forgive and move on? Why the grudge and bad press? The guy isn't a creep. He screwed up and that doesn't excuse what he said but he seems to be very sincere in his apologies and desire to change or get better. Why not help him out instead of beat him down? What happened to so called forgiveness etc.? All these churches preach it yet so few practice it when push comes to shove.

It is not a Jewish belief to turn the other cheek, Jesus taught that, & they do not know him.

People love to beat others down, especially when they are down already. Mel has shown how great being drunk really is. He fell to temptation, which is what the churches say to stay away from. If he had, he would not have to put up with all this. Imagine if he had run over someone, or got in a wreck, possibly killing someone. Yes, this is what happens when you drive drunk, sometimes. Mel will learn from this, he will get better, and hopefully he will become stronger, helping others as he goes. Most Jews know that Mel does not hate Jews, and have forgiven him, but the press has to make their money, generally from the sufferings of others.

Well to apologize means you make a deal to the offended group or person that you make a promise that you'll not to do the same offense in the future but Mel never apologized seriously to the Jewish community, his speech is nothing more than a mere 'I'm sorry' and it requires to state the apology of his own mistake or offense and to make a promise not to do these mistakes in the future. Remember the film, The Passion of the Christ, neither Mel nor the film company never apologize nor to warn the Jews that the movie is a bit anti-Semetic. Most likely the Jewish community will not listen to Gibson again and neither to watch his films and this slur will most likely to ruin Gibson's reputation because of his slur.

They were waiting for an opportunity and now they have found one. So they are going to milk this incident as much as possible, because they might never find any incident like this. This situation was blown out of proportion. If i drink and drive i might say things that don't make any sense and that doesn't mean i am evil. Millions of people drink and drive and are not caught. Just because Mel did it they are blowing it into a big scene.

His apology was a publicity stunt, as is his entry to rehab. When he got pulled over and rambled about the jews, his true colors shined through. He is nothing more then a bigot. If he had killed someone while drinking and driving, and then apologized to the victim's family would the family have to forgive him? F*ck him, as George Castanza said, "You can stuff your sorrys in a sack."

What makes you think the Jews haven't forgiven him? It's not Jews who are creating the "bad press."

As far as forgiveness goes, what's "in one's heart" only counts in Christianity. Jews must ask forgiveness from each person we've offended, and receive their forgiveness before we can ask God's forgiveness. When Mel Gibson asks for my forgiveness I will certainly forgive him. Haven't seen hide nor hair of him yet... I'm sure he'll be knocking on my door any day now. I hope he lives long enough to receive forgiveness from each and every one of us before he meets his maker.

Shalom

There's along story behind this, but let me give you the abbreviated version. (We'll skip past his family because the fact that his father is a raving anti-Semite doesn't mean Mel is.)

When he first came to my attention re anti-Semitism was when he was making his "Passion" movie. The screenplay had been vetted by respectable scholarly sources who deemed it had an anti-Semitic bias. He ignored their suggestions to make the movie more in line with historical reality and chose to make it in exactly the way they objected to. He wasn't drunk then, so what was the excuse?

Why should they ?, I wasn't taken in by his pathetic and insincere apology. He is just trying to save his *** from going to jail, what if he had killed someone, a child perhaps ? would he still have apologised and hope to have his wrist slapped. Send the drunken bum to jail and keep him there for a couple of years, I am sure the American penal system will make a real man of him, and give him time to dry out.
