If you love something, set it free--if it comes back to you , its yours, if it does't it never was.....
How long does one wait?

It is absolutely true but you need lot of patience for that, a patience that should come from within you that is your unselfish heart which still has that true love for your someone. If you rush to get him back without any patience then you would probably be the one with lot of greed and selfish person trying to achieve everything in one shot.Everything needs right time to fall in it's places. However, true love never dies and it always come back to you safe sooner or later, all you need is just a bit of patience and pray for it with true heart. He will definitely come back to you.If he didn't then you can assume he was never yours.God Bless.

if you love something set it free, or break it's legs so it can't get away.....

I hate the saying "If you love something, set it free--if it comes back to you , its yours, if it does't it never was" because it's not true. If you love something, don't let go.
Why would you want to be with someone who doesn't want to be with you?

First of all I would like to know under what circumstances you "set it free". If it was thru an argument as in "get the hell out of here, I never want to see you again" or if it was a mutual agreement? If it was by mutual agreement, then I would give the person a couple of months to return and then be on my way.
By the way, if it was the first scenero, all I can say ,is you'd not see me again!

Do not apply some 'gibberish' pop culture saying to events in your life; choose to deal with events as they come and infuse wisdom into your thought processes.

I would say no more than a few months. If a significant other can't see the error of their way by then, then **** 'em.
