I'm the wife of a Drill Sergeant on Ft. Sill. Different units do graduation their own way. They graduation ceremony itself can either be fun or boring, whatever you make of it. There will be a couple speeches and then a cool slide show. It'll show them doing all areas of their training. All the Drill Sergeants will also be presented. The graduating soldiers will do their creed. Each soldier will walk across the stage to receive his "diploma". It's a very proud moment for them. Most of the family and friends are just as proud. At times, it can be emotional.

Go and enjoy....it's something you can only experience once. Good luck!!

P.S. Don't expect to see him alot while you're here. He still has things expected of him and depending on the unit, he'll have curfew and stuff. I might also add that it's greatly appreciated if you respect the uniform and don't hang all over him while he's in it. You'll see some do it, but it's not proper behavior in uniform, even though you miss him.

Have fun!!

EDIT: If you don't have hotel reservations, I suggest you get them. We fill up fast here for graduations. You can go on the Ft. Sill web site for info if you need it.

EDIT2: My hubby told me to tell you that the day prior, there's a "Family Day". They'll put on a presentation for the family members and you'll be able to see what he's done. Also, there will be a family luncheon or dinner. After that, he'll go on pass for the remainder of the day. Whether or not he has to return that night depends on the unit. The next day is graduation, then he's off to his AIT (school).

If you've never attended a military ceremony you should be impressed. Enjoy, your soldier went through a lot to get to that field.
