Mere atheism is no more a religion than mere theism is. Atheism is the absence of belief in gods and lacks any of the defining characteristics of religion — like belief in sacred objects or space, a moral code, a social group based upon a philosophy or worldview, rituals, etc. Atheism can be part of a religion, just like theism can be part of a religion. All by themselves, though, they are individual data points and not belief systems that could possibly qualify as religions

It is a belief system that requires a certain amount of faith. However, it has no real rules or system of beliefs in and of itself. As you pointed out, theism, in itself, is not a religion. Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, Islam, etc., are all religions that fall under theism. Humanism is the religion practiced by most atheists today, and it certainly has its own doctrines and codes of ethics to live by.

While Atheism is not a religion, most atheists I know are religious.

According to the US government, a religion is any set of beliefs that influence one's actions. By Supreme Court ruling, atheism is a religion. In fact, it's now the official religion of the US Government.

OF COURSE atheism is a religion-and you're all your own little mini-gods...you have your own philosophy, your own worldview, your own rituals (running to court anytime someone utters the word "God" outside of a chuch building), a moral code (which demands that you belittle, demean, and slander any believers whenever and wherever possible)...sounds like a religion to me...

Atheism is a religion if you acquire a set of beliefs in order to defend it. It is your option to simply object "There is no God." But that's not very convincing is it?

Atheism is not a religions... it is pure ignorance... at one point I, myself belived that there is not God, but you see, do you not feel a benevolent presence everywhre you go... as much as I tried to concince myself that I am hollow I have not succeded, it seems the Devil has failed in getting my soul. All those out there, tread lightly as you do not know what fate has reserved for you... to belive is not a synonim with to worship... take heed.

Atheism=is the "belief" that there is no God. And that any evidence that suggest that there is, is merely coincidental.

It's an acceptance of finally learning the difference between imaginary and real, just like Santa when your little everyone carries on about Santa, books,TV, your parents are telling you all about Santa so he must be real, and then one day they realize you don't need Santa in your life and they hope you will be ok knowing it was all make believe. GOD, BIBLE same thing.

Yes,
They preach it, they teach it, they worship the idea of not having a higher person to account to.
Yes, it's ideological, and empty with no salvation, but it's a religion.
