I have a few questions.
what do you prefer and why:

a miniDV camcorder or one that records to a Harddrive.

my goal is to be filming stuff like when im snowboarding, stuff like that. 'action' stuff. so wouldn't the harddrive be not reliable? (from shaking etc.)

and also, is there that big of a difference between the just 'regular' miniDV cams and the ones that boast HD?

thanks.

I don't think that the HD recorder is a good idea. The temp differential from inside to outside may cause hard drive problems. This could crash the hard drive or cause read write problems when it comes to playback. Check the manufacturers specs. Download and read the manual first. If in doubt do not buy. Vibrations is not a harddrives best friend. They tend to crash when subject to vibrations and g-forces. Same goes for DVD camcorders. I do know of friends with DVD camcorders that cannot playback the DVD that they shot on vacation to Colorado last winter.

Mini DV with tapes are better than DVD quality. You can edit those without losing quality.

The HD camcorders are quite expensive and I really don't know of and HD-DVD players out there yet, for the consumer. Or HD DVD software. HD discs. Damn, that's going to be a lot of extra stuff.

Record it on HD and store it as files so that some day in the future you can re-edit for HD technology. Use the same footage for now as edited for regular DVD.

this question at present got here up in the manhattan cases. formally, there is not any particular regulation limiting using a camcorder throughout flight. regardless of if, there have been cases the place passengers filming throughout takeoff and touchdown have been asked to place their camcorders away. airlines have given one rationalization for it: particularly your camcorder is area of your carry-on luggage, and all luggage could desire to be positioned away the two in the overhead bin or below the seat in front of you, in case there is turbulence and you lose administration of your camcorder. My suggestion could be: decide for it, yet while a flight attendant asks you to place it away, recognize his/her practise, and you could desire to be effective.

for snowboarding...definitely dv is the choice.hdd(hard drive) isn't as good as dv on recording action movement like that.
