I have a 40GB HDD in a external enclosure that I used once to backup my files, folders, and photos. Since I didn't have a backup program at that time, I just did the "copy and paste method" to backup my files, folders, and photos.

Now that I have Acronis True Image 9.0, I want to backup my ENTIRE system including my operating system (Windows XP HE).

My question is this: How do I remove the data (my copy and paste backup) that I now have on this external HDD in order to make it ready to receive a new backup using Acronis True Image?

Yah, you need to reformat your disk or simplymanual delete all exsiting files then do the cloning process using your exsting software. Coolest formating and partitioning software i have tried so far is Partition magic...though you can simply make use of the computer management feature in the administrtive tools within your control panel to do formating and partitioning tricks. After doin the format, its highly recommended that you partition ur disk as well before you will do the cloning thing...

Well,
You can easily format your external drive in Disk Management. And after ther keep there your images.
I use Acronis and external USB drive for making full backup, it's really dependable way.

same way you would format any other disk or drive. Just right-click the drive from explorer and then select format. It might take a while to format such a drive. Just make sure not to format C: ;)
