If you were adopted thru an orphanage/organization, that would be a great place to start.

If the name is common, then just check the city where they lived last.

or go to the library, and look his name up, that will help find a birthplace. ask some of your family did they every no any thing about your father.

Do a search on yahoo for the free public records in your state. If you go onto the latter day saints (mormons) website, they may be able to help you also. They have a great geneological site with free records available. You can also do a search with the white pages (or the phone book in the UK). Also try www.rootsweb.com
I have found lost family members through these avenues. I hope that you are as successful.

Have you tried: http://www.zabasearch.com? It is a free website.

Since you have a common first and last name you will have to look at hundreds, if not, thousands, of names to locate your father.

If you can narrow the search to a particular city and state, it may be a little easier.

I suggest you be prepared to write letters to everyone you find with the same name as your father.

You can write one letter and photocopy it so you don't have to type it hundreds of times. Mail it to everyone with the same name as your dad.

Good luck.

I've heard that's it's easier to find parents the younger you are because they were a lot more strict many years ago when it came to privacy and releasing records. I'm currently looking for someones son that was given up about 40 years ago.
