In most cars now, they have a thing called smart airbags. If you do not weigh a certain amount, the airbag sensor will not come on. **My friend had a Chevy Cobalt, that he wife rode in the passenger seat and she did not weigh enough to turn to airbag sensor on, they got rid of it after they found out about it**
Also, if you bought the car in used condition, the airbag may have been turned off or could have been in previous wreck where the airbag was deployed and no new airbag was put it.
In all three of these situations, you could sue, but it would be thrown out. Check with your manufacture about your cars airbags, or get a car fax on the vehicle history, before filing a lawsuit.

Only if you were injured, because of an accident. If you were injured, because your air bag, did not deploy, then you probably would have a lawsuit, best thing would be, talk to an attorney, he could advice you. Did the company send you anything about a recall, telling you that there were problems with the air bag? Did you know, that the air bag was defective? All of these questions, come into play, regarding a lawsuit.

What is a wreak?
Your airbag didn't work because either A: The collision was not at a high enough speed or B: The collision was not frontal.
Believe me, you do not want your airbag to inflate unless absolutely necessary.
Why do you Americans want to sue everyone every five seconds?

Airbags are not designed to deploy in wreaks; only in wrecks or crashes. Seriously, if you and your passengers were able to walk away with little more than cuts and bruises consider yourself lucky.
Let's face it, there are no guarantees of safety when driving. Lawyers are what keep the costs of new cars out of the reach of average buyers.

No. You can't sue. I was hit head on by a drunk driver and my airbags did not go off. I had it checked out and they said because the truck literally drove up the front of my car and did not hit the center of the front it did not go off. My car had to be completely replaced from the front to the steering wheel, even the tires and motor, but the point where it had to hit wasn't hit.

If you were wearing seat belts, it takes a stronger force for air bags to deploy, if the car is bought used, the air bags might not even be there.

i have seen cars with hardly a dent have the airbags deploy. i have also seen cars smashed hard in the side and not deployed the airbags. the sensors are designed to deploy the airbags from collisions in certain directions and at or above specific speeds. if yours should have deployed and didn't, which could be hard to prove, you may have grounds for a suit. if you or any passengers weren't injured, it would be hard to ask for damages for injuries that never occured.

the great thing about this country is that you can sue anyone for just about anything, you might not win but you can scare the company into giving you some money

Can you sue ?? yes, Can you win ? Probably not, unless you can show permanent injury. If I was on your jury you wouldn't have a chance in hell of winning, without some kind of injury.

As people said, it's the severity of the crash, angle of impact, spped of deceleration and numberous factors.
Basically it takes the same force as hitting head on into a brick wall at 30mph to set them off.
and that's basically ALL CARS AND TRUCKS!
