visit the museums, they are very close together, and takes about a day to go through just one of them. Lake Michigan, no swimming, but nice all year to stand on the beech. Many things.

Sears tower, Museum of Science and Industry, and go to Chicago Subs and Chicago Pizza. You can also cruise up and check out all the sailors coming off base at night, at NTC in Great Lakes.

I dont know much about hotels/housing. Sorry- I was in boot camp when I visited Chicago, and the hotel was cheap, and not used for "family outings", if ya know what I mean, lol. (c'mon be nice- 3 months of boot camp will make a person crazy!

I can say- check out Craigslist, and see if there are any emporary rommate situations available. Might save you some money.

Millenium Park, Navy Pier, Museum of Science and Industry are all really cool, but depending on when you go, you may have to watch the weather in October. If you stay in or near the 'Loop' (downtown) theres lots and lots of easy public transit. Take advantage of that when possible. Theres also the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Shedd Aquarium, Field museum, Sears Tower or Hancock Tower, and several off Broadway shows.

Buy a coffee mug in the airport with the word "Chicago" on it with a big lipstick kiss-print on it for a souvenir for someone special. I bought such a mug in Chicago and that's the only thing I did there. I gave it to my mother and she used it every morning for years. It was a layover on my way to Providence.

Sorry but that's the extent of my memory of Chicago except there was a lot of smog in the late 80's. Might want to get a gas mask.

Stay at the O'hare Marriott. There is train service from there to downtown (Wrigley, Navy Pier, etc). Visit Navy Pier and the museums and get a pizza at Uno or Due.

There is so much to do. You can stay at an Embassy Suites, downtown. Visit Millenium Park, Navy Pier, and The Shedd Aquarium. (A baby beluga whale was just born there!)

We went to Chicago one summer, to visit my son and his wife and of all the things we did-I think the best was Wrigley Park (for a game, of course) Be sure to ride the trains all over-it is just an awesome experience!
